Christmas Breakfast?

Wahoo! You guys have some awesome suggestions here- I will gather the troops to review the choices when they get up! Thanks, everyone!

Here's another good breakfast casserole I make. Its so yummy!
It would be good for x-mas breakfast.

Toffee Apple French Toast

8 cups cubed French bread, (1 inch cubes)
2 medium tart apples, peeled & chopped
1 package (8oz) cream cheese, softened
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup sugar
1 3/4 cup milk, divided
2 teaspoons vanilla extract, divided
1/2 cups English toffee bits and/or nuts
5 eggs

Place half the bread in a greased 13x9 inch pan. Top with apples. In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugars, 1/4 cup milk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla until smooth. Fold in toffee or nuts. Spread over apples. Top with remaining bread.

In another mixing bowl, beat eggs, remaining milk & vanilla together. Pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Remove dish from refrigerator 30 minutes before baking. Bake uncovered, at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes or until knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

I was thinking about doing breakfast casserole, but after seeing all of these yummy recipes, I may try something else...

Heck... I want a few of these for breakfast today! :)

Last year my DD and I made Pilsbury turnovers, but I think this year I might make overnight sticky buns from scratch... if I have time in between wrapping gifts 'cause I'm not sure if I'll get that done before Christmas eve... lol.

We have a huge get together at my cousin's house every year. Everybody, like every single family member is all there by 9am Christmas morning. So we don't eat at home, we just open our presents and run over there for more presents LOL.
He does the works. Everything you can think of. I just bring hashbrown casserole.

We always have cinnamon rolls.

I don't have time to cook a big breakfast because we usually have to be out of the house by 11-12 for dinner and since we usually eat around 1-2 a big breakfast would ruin that.

no question about it, my family tradition is Eggs Benedict. Even when we were in a hotel last year at Disneyland, dad packed his egg poaching pan etc so we could make them!!

I am seriously drooling after reading all these recipes, (especially the gingerbread waffles and toffee apple french toast!) so I think I've got breakfasts planned right up until Xmas day now!! haha thanks

I am drooling over the gingerbread waffles and the toffee apple french toast recipes Vanessa posted! Too bad we don't have a waffle iron though. I think I might have to fix the toffee apple one though! Last year I made the baked french toast recipe that Gina Miller posted @ MSA and Rob wasn't a fan of that but this one sounds even better so he might go for it!

well last year I was really sick so I made Christmas breakfast with help from MIL and skipped any other food at all, all day. We had eggs, biscuits, gravy, sausage, bacon, cottage cheese, cinnamon rolls, fried apples, and pancakes with maple syrup. I'll never do that again LOL!

Normally I put oats for oatmeal with tiny fresh cut up apples, cinnamon and sugar in the crock pot the night before, OR we'll get donuts in advance the day before, like Krispy Kreme :D

I'm an oatmeal in the crockpot newb...can you give me measurements for your apple cinnamon oatmeal pretty please? It sounds nummy! ...and do you use quick oats or the other...or does it make a difference (what did I buy? it's in Tupperware marked "oatmeal" now).

Thanks!

I've always done cinnamon sugar Monkey Bread, but I think I might be trying one of these sausage/egg casseroles this year! They sound delish!!

BTW-to make the Monkey Bread, I use the frozen bread loaves by Bridgeford. Thaw, cut into chunks, dip into melted butter then roll in a cinnamon/sugar mix. Let rise then bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.

We make what we call "Cinnamon Bears." They're really like monkey bread. They're easy to make...

Take a can of biscuits (we use Grands buttermilk)
Melt about half a stick of butter
Mix up cinnamon sugar in another bowl
Coat biscuits individually in butter, then roll in cinnamon sugar
Bake according to package directions in a glass baking pan with sides touching

Use leftover butter to make frosting by adding powdered sugar and a few drops of milk. I also add some vanilla extract.

It's not low-fat, but it sure is good!

OH girlfriend....this is SO yummified.......and AWESOME leftover too!

Sausage & Egg Casserole Strata

12 slices bread cubed, crusts trimmed
12 oz. (3 cups) shredded cheddar
1 lb. ground pork sausage, cooked; drain fat
6-7 large eggs
2 ½ c. milk
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 pint fresh mushrooms, chopped big

In 9x13 greased pan, layer bread, cheese, sausage, and mushrooms. Combine soup, dry mustard, milk, and eggs. Pour over strata. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for about one hour.

If you girls try those recipes, be sure to let me know what you think.

That Toffee French Toast is to die for. So are the waffles. :)

Printing off these recipes ASAP and making a list...going to have dh pick up ingredients for a couple of these...guess we will have some good breakfasts in the next week

Thanks ladies!

or, if I feel lazy I will make my MIL's Blueberry French Toast
You can substitute the blueberries with any kind of berry you like. :)

1/2 c. flour
1-1/2 c. milk
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
6 eggs
10 slices french bread cut into cubes
1 3-oz. pkg. cream cheese cut into 1/2" cubes
1 c. fresh or frozen blueberries
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Grease 13x9 pan. Beat flour, milk, sugar, vanilla, salt & eggs until smooth. Stir in bread until coated. Pour into pan. top evenly with cream cheese, blueberries and nuts. Cover and refrigerate up to 24 hours.

*If you refrigerate this overnight, be sure to let the pan sit at room temp for at least 30 minutes prior to baking so you don't break your dish (assuming you are using glass or stoneware).

Bake at 400 uncovered for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with warm syrup (I usually melt butter in with my syrup).

We tried the blueberry french toast...but I have picky kids and dh...we made it without the blueberries. Next time we are going to make without cream cheese (boys ate around the cream cheese) and add some cinnamon and sugar to it...great recipe!
