Chris Brown

So I'm sure you all have heard by now about what Chris Brown did to Rihanna.
If not you can read about it here.
My hubby just came in from the car and said he just heard on the radio that they're bringing him up on attempted murder charges and that most radio stations are pulling his music.
Personally, I was sort of a fan. He has some good songs and was a mad dancer. Now though, I don't have one iota of respect for him. Coming from an abusive home, you'd think he'd know better.

I really liked him as an artist too, and I've been following this story. I think he had said somewhere previously he'd never be like that, knowing what it was like. And look where he is. Once you're grown, you're old enough to make your own choices and know things like this are wrong, and yet, it happened anyway.

Just so sick. She is so precious too, and such a talent also. What a waste.

I thought he was a really talented guy - still is I guess. But I won't be supporting him at all. Hope he does time.

The station I listen to in the AMs here has pulled his music because of listener request/vote.

They also mentioned someone who works at the station had rec'd a text message from one of Chris' bodyguards (they are good friends, I guess) since this happened. The text sd that Rihanna's injuries were the result of a car accident they were in while Chris was driving and that Rihanna had caused the accident by grabbing the steering wheel away from Chris while they were mid-argument. Just an interesting tidbit for you.

To play Devil's Advocate, though, why pull his music? Just because it's a 'sensitive' crime? We know there are plenty of musicians who have had multiple DUIs, gun possession charges, etc. but I've never heard of anyone else's music being pulled in recent memory.

[I take that back: remember when the Dixie Chicks bashed Bush at an English concert? A lot of country stations pulled their music for awhile.]

If the statement is 'We will not play his music because he is a criminal,' then shouldn't the station do that for every musician who has been arrested and/or accused of a crime? If the statement is 'We will not play his music because he is a womanbeater & that is the worst thing ever,' who makes that call? What abt innocent until proven guilty?

More examples: 50 Cent admitted to assault and battery of fans at a show of his in 2004. His music was never pulled.

T.I. was found guilty of weapons possession when his bodyguard delivered $12,000 worth of machine guns to him. His music was never pulled. He just won a Grammy for pete's sake!

Don't get me wrong: I think domestic abuse is horrible and should be punished accordingly. I'm just asking who makes the call that this is worse than other things musicians have done in the past?

WOW, I knew he was in trouble but I didn't realize it was involving Rhianna and that it was so serious. Guess I better go read the story.

I think it's a "pull-his-music" situation because that's what people want. There are so many factors involved: their status, age, popularity....
Of course, other musicians have committed serious crimes but I think that it's the norm now to hand-slap and then forget.
But with this case I think that the crime was so unexpected and violent that it's disturbing a lot of fans.
Honestly though, I don't know what to think. I am a huge Rihanna fan and am greatly concerned. This incident could have serious reprocussions for a long time both mentally and emotionally - just at the height of her career.
Whether she allegedly pulled the steering wheel or tossed his keys out the window, it gives him NO RIGHT to bite, choke or beat her..and then RUN AWAY!
He's a douchebag and had the choice to be an abuser or to be a bigger man.
He needs help and he needs to be punished.

Domestic violence is a big deal and I'm glad his listeners and fans are mortified and taking this seriously. I'd like to reserve judgement, but the evidence seems pretty clear (hello bite marks? that's no injury from an accident), and it's so sad that he seems to be continuing the horrible ugly, vicious cycle that is domestic abuse. :( I pray for healing for both Rhianna and for him.

I am so sad and shocked by this story. I LOVED Chris Brown. His music and dancing is awesome and he seemed really cute and sweet. I just can't believe he did this. I also really like Rihanna and I feel so badly for her. "Live your Life" is my son's favorite song right now. They seemed like the cutest couple in Hip Hop. I hope she gets well and stays the hell away from him. He has a lot of soul searching to do. His father was an abuser of his mother....so....it is going to take some work on his part to change who he is and what he has been through.

One of the stations said here that the argument started because Rhianna was dancing with other guys at the Grammy party they were at that night, and then another station said that it was because Rhianna gave Chris herpes. Neither reason is good, and I hope that things happen like they should.

Ok, here's my stance....

While we don't know the whole story (and probably never will), its pretty apparent that there was some sort of domestic violence between Christ Brown and Rhianna. To what degree and at who's fault is something we might also never know.

But its a terrible situation for all involved and I just hope that justice is brought against the abuser regardless of fame or fortune.

As for pulling his music, I tend to agree with LeeAndra. Not that I think we should support someone like this, but why Chris Brown? Why now? Why not Eminem when he spewed hate words in his music and was arrested for domestic abuse himself? Why not 50 cent or TI? How about Whitney Houston or David Lee Roth for posession of narcotics? Or Lindsay Lohan for driving under the influence? What makes Chris Brown any different? Because he hit a woman? Yes, thats awful. But so are all of those other things. Are we mad because he "seemed so nice"? If celebrities "seem really awful" are their crimes not as heinous? Its just such a backward industry, music. Fame, really.

But I'm hopping off my soapbox now. The whole situation is very sad, though.

I think the difference is he committed the crime against someone we "know," if you will. A lot of these stations play Rihanna's music as well and I think this is sort of their way of showing support for her. I know the radio station here said this morning that they weren't going to comment on the situation until the facts were more straightened out and I believe they were still playing his music.
