Chat last night at DST

Psssst... Robin! You're the boss! If you want to make it International Chat at 9 Pacific So Robin Can Play Day here at SSD... you can! :)

I'm like Sarah, I love DST, I just try to stick to its positives and avoid the drama for the most part.

Yup, that's me, too. I was there last night, and it really was just a few people who had to keep adding their [unrelated] commentary or asking repeatedly if they'd missed the freebie link. Unfortunately, I've gotten used to that in the digi-community. I've never been at a big-name designer's chat where that wasn't the case, regardless of site. The SSD chats are unique because designers show up, but they're participating as part of the SSD community, not as featured guests.

I've never done a DST chat, it's just such a big site I can't imagine keeping up with a chat there.

I'd like to do a chat here but it's too late east coast time for me and for some reason, even though Java chat works fine elsewhere, I cannot get it to load here.

I was going go cause I'm on SP's team, but I totally forgot about it. I was getting the kids in the bed & bath at that time.

I'm sorry she had such a hard time over there, and the chatters weren't following the rules. Kristy is super generous with her freebies anyway, I mean, she does big, full kits that she gives away, that are amazing quality.

I usually forget about DST chats, they are almost always too late for me in my time zone too.

Robin, you know, we can just have our Friday night chat, but we should have one another day in the week too, so you can come!!!

Robin, remember when we use to host those silly trivia chats on Sundays together? Maybe we could do it again sometime. :) I also remember the time I tried to do a music night and everyone laughed their head off because you all realized that I'm totally out of touch on current music! LOL

Goodness I think I only have done one DST chat, but I really don't do chats at all. Or anything instant that often. I'm sorry to hear it was chaos though. That's unfortunate. Though I can't quite understand why it was so bad- were people vulgar or just not giving SP a chance to "talk"?

More the 2nd. There were also lots of "Did I miss the freebie link? Where are the goodies?" posts. And there were some unintentional faux pas, too, like people who didn't know that she doesn't like to share her real name pestering her to share it. Luckily there was 1 person there who seemed to know her (a team member?) and she stepped in a few times in those situations.

Actually I don't like (never did) the chat at DST BECAUSE of the rules.
I went last night just because of Kristy.
I hate those interview kind of chat.
I love the goofiness, the chaos, everybody jumping in for the prizes. I think that makes a chat fun. Because a chat room is for CHAT not just for lurk. To read an interview I rather look for newsletter or a blog
But, I do follow the rules the rare ocations I go there

BTW: I was the one to ask her to share her real name (and I do know her) but didn't know she didn't want to make it public. I did apologize to her to be the sparkle to the chaos tho.

i rarely go on chats because usually the ones talking are the ones that know each other and i'm quite shy... i'm even so shy to jump in and post in a forum, let alone chats.

Nah, it wasn't really as bad as all that. :) The last chat that was hosted in SP's honor (not at DST) was total chaos and she swore off chats all together. She said this one went much better and that she had fun. Christy and I think it went pretty well too, considering how popular SP is. I've been around the block in digi-chat world and when there's a big designer, the chats usually get much, much more chaotic then this. Granted, there definitely were people who needed to be reminded of the rules but that happens at any chat where there are rules. People come in late and don't know better. Typically I try to PM people to remind them of the rules so its not so "scoldy" but I was multi-tasking that night. Oriana didn't know that SP didn't like to share her real name. She didn't mean any harm by asking.

I totally agree with you guys though about the people who come in and ask for freebies. I understood the people at the end who asked if they'd missed the promised goodies. But its definitely a pet-peeve when people walk into any chat and ask for free stuff. I mean, sheesh....who does that? "Hey, I'm here at the party. Can I have my goodie bag so I can get outta here?"
