Car Accident

On the way to school Tuesday, Hannah and I were hit from behind. We were having a Mommy/Hannah morning and going to stop for breakfast before school. Stephen was working from home because Cayden is on the tail end of Hand, Foot, Mouth virus, and we didn't want to expose the kiddos at his preschool.

So I'm slowing down to turn into the Chick-Fil-A/Starbucks Parking lot, and the next thing I know we are moving very quickly towards a metal fence and electrical pole. The whole thing was so surreal. I felt like I was going in slow motion as I gathered my wits and realized what was happened. The first thing that clued me in to something being wrong was Hannah screaming, "MOMMY!" That's what got me back into reality and able to manuever the car away from the fence and hit the brakes to come to a stop (nearly at the street a block away). We landed on the side walk about 400 ft from the driveway where were were intentionally trying to get into.

The car is a mess. As soon as we get the chance to get to the Tow Yard, I'll post photos, but it doesn't look good at all. The bumper and trunk were literally in the backseat. We couldn't open the doors to get Hannah out. I had to crawl through the front seat to get Hannah unbuckled and then had her crawl out of the car through the front.

Cop arrived, took care of us first. The guy appeared to have insurance, but I'm fairly certain he got a free trip downtown because our car was towed immediately, his truck was drivable, and it was still at the accident scene when we headed to the ER 2 hours later.

Turns out Hannah is fine. She is emotionally traumatized beyond belief. I don't even know how we're going to handle that. We'll have her talk to our pastors and the school counselor and then go from there, but this little 5 year old doesn't want to go anywhere in a car without her daddy anymore.

I on the other hand have a minor concussion and severe whiplash. After going to the chiropractor twice with no improvement around my next, I have an Xay scheduled for tomorrow. He's afraid that I may have a cervical fracture. I'm on Vicodin, Motrin, and Soma (a muscle relaxer) and under the medical treatment of my chiropractor. No work for the rest of the week. No lifting for who knows how long.

But it could have been much worse. We are soooo blessed. And please, please, pray for the young man who hit us. If he was drunk (and underage), he's in a world of trouble.

Turns out the kid didn't have insurance either, which totally sucks, but we are thankful that we have awesome car insurance to help with all of this.

Oh Rose, I'm so sorry. That's such a horrible thing to deal with.

I hope lil Hannah can find comfort soon, and that you don't have any major medical problems from the accident!

That is so scary! Glad that you two are more or less okay. Hope you feel better soon and Hannah feels safe again.

wow, glad you are okay! poor little Hannah. I had a car accident about ten years ago; someone ran a stop sign and i hit them coming down a one way 3 lane road. Even though i hit them it was their fault for running the stop sign and they didnt have insurance either. I was perfectly fine but my car was totaled. it was tramautic for me and i was 20 years old, so i can imagine how a 5 year old must be feeling!

Oh my gosh, I am sooo sorry that you had to go throught such a terrible thing, and I am so happy that you are both alright.. I hope that Hannah is able to be comforted, and I hope that you start feeling better soon..
BIG (((HUGS)))

WOW! So glad that you guys made it out ok. Bummer about your car but who cares about that when you had your daughter in the accident with you, right?

Question for you, and I am just genuinely curious since you mentioned it. How come you are under the care of a chiropractor and not a medical doc if you might possibly have a cervical break? I grad. massage therapy school a few years ago so this is of interest to me...LOL (sorry to hijack)

Wow! How scary! Hope you both start feeling better physically and emotionally. I can only imagine how your daughter must be feeling.

I'm so glad you and Hannah are ok!!! What a relief you've got great insurance to help you out!
I hope you're better soon, and it's not serious! Poor little Hannah, I can't imagine what she's going through right now! ((hugs))

I am SO glad to hear you are okay but omg you poor thing and poor Hannah! I will def be keeping you guys in my thoughts and prayers!

How scary! Glad it wasn't worse, but poor little Hannah! I hope they can help figure out what's wrong so you can get feeling better!

Mercy, that was scary, I'm glad things aren't worse for you. Poor little Hannah, I hope she'll be able to feel better soon and you too.

Oh my! what an awful thing to go thru! Glad you two are okay! and hope she finds comfort soon. I've been in a few accidents when i was younger, and i think it has me scarred. i always freak and hold on to the door handle like it's a brake, don't mean to, it's just a impluse. Anyway, i know how she feels and hope it will pass for her.

Yikes. So glad that it wasn't worse, though sorry that you are hurt! We had a sort of similar incident a couple years ago -- our minivan was hit (totaled) by an impaired driver at 8:00 a.m. on the way to my son's preschool. He was pretty traumatized about it too, but kids are pretty resilient and he got over it in a couple weeks. We reminded him that car seats are there to keep kids safe and that it worked as it was supposed to (the driver actually hit right on the door where my son sits and smashed the window in on him, so he was freaked) and that he is safe as long as he is in his seat.

sorry to hear that...my husband was in an accident 2 years ago and he is still sseeing the dr. for it. He has two bulging disks on the verge of herniating and deals with severe pain in his back, right leg and arm. The kid had only 10,000 in damage and that was all they paid most of which went to pay for medical bills. All our bills are now being paid out of pocket. Accidents really suck.

Oh forgot to add my daugter was in that accident with her dad. She was pretty traumatized also. She didnt want to drive herself ever and she was about a year off of getting her permit. She is however able to drive now and is totally fine. Her dr. told us it was post traumatic stress disorder and it would not last forever. Trust me itll pass for your little girl too. Just let her talk about it and tell her that it was an accident and that she is still safe in the car.

(((HUGS))) Rose - I'm so sorry. Having been through an accident like that this summer with both of my boys, I know how you feel about Hannah. I know she's scared, and let her be for awhile. She will move on. And it may take some enticing to her favoritest places on earth to get her going. But hug her a lot.

I hope you get to feeling better really quickly!!!

oh rose!!! glad you and little hannah are ok. despite the neck problems. you will def be in my prayers, along with little hannah's emotional state and the young man who hit you guys. HUGS TOO!!!

I'm glad you guys are ok! I hurt my shoulder in a car accident in January, and trust me, take all the time you need to recover, and get therapy. ((hugs))

Wow! How scary! I am glad both of you are ok! I hope you get feeling better soon and your little one can get some comfort!! ((hugs))

Oh my gosh!! That is so scary!! I'm so sorry that happened to you guys and that poor Hannah is so traumatized!! :( I am glad that you both weren't more seriously hurt!! Big hugs!!

I went to the ER for my injuries and the trauma of my injuries was so much, the ER doc didn't want to do xays or anything at the moment. I follow up with my family doctor on Friday. I have been going to a chiropractor faithfully for 7 years because of problems with my neck in the past. Since I'm not improving in my neck, he wants me to get an xay. I'm sure that if there's a cervical break I will be back at the medical doctor office since chiro's can only do so much medically. I hope that makes sense.

Oh no, I am so sorry! I hope Hannah will get through this okay.....I can't imagine how scared she must be.
Hope you start to feel better soon too, thank god it was no worse than it was!

OMGoodness! How incredibly scary! Being in a car accident is one of my biggest fears, I don't know I'd be able to handle it as well as you seem to be! HUGS for you and Hannah, the poor little sweetheart!

so glad you guys are ok! I know how scary that can be.. Ce & I got into an accident a few years ago too.. it just shakes those poor kids :( Hope you are able to work through it with her & that there isn't anything seriously wrong with your neck!!

oh my goodness sweetie! That is sooooo scary! {{big hugs}} I hope that you guys are ok and Hannah will heal emotionally! I am sending lots of prayers now!
