I have been having the WORST insomnia the last 6 months or so. Gee... I wonder what I should do while everyone else is in bed?

I hope you find some sleep soon sweetie ((HUGS))

Well, having a dish of ice cream probably isn't going to help my case any. <face palm>

My husband is an insomniac. A couple of months ago I got him using essential oils to help him sleep better, and he says they do help a little. Enough for him to keep applying them every night.

OMG I literally JUST got into essential oils. My SIL started selling DoTerra. My dd has been using some lavender oil at bedtime and she thinks it's helping her. Is that what he's using?

We use Young Living oils. The Rutavala blend has rue, valerian and lavender in it, which reduce stress and calm the mind, and he also uses Cedarwood sometimes, to help calm the brain. One of the reasons he can't sleep is because his brain is going a mile a minute thinking of all the things he needs to do. Cedarwood also stimulates the release of melatonin.

I think DoTerra branched off from Young Living, didn't it? I'll look into some of their blends. I remember seeing them but wasn't prepared to make a bunch of purchases so didn't really investigate it much further.

My hubby has trouble sleeping. He takes a melatonin before bed and then I use an essential oil blend for him. (similar to the one above!) It has helped a lot.

I listen to audiobooks or podcasts when I have trouble sleeping. It has to be something I'm interested in or my mind wanders, but being able to focus on one thing while my eyes are closed usually lets me drop off to sleep. Otherwise my mind will stay on forever.

My usual go-to solution probably isn't that healthy... take a bunch of Benedryl with a few glasses of wine. :o

Hey, it works! lol!

My sister listens to audio books too but I never think to try one. Have you ever bought one and then realized you HATED the voice or anything?

I listened to a bunch as a kid, but now we have all of the Harry Potter books, and they are amazing. I get bad insomnia when I'm pregnant, and they are my go-to. I'm not as bad when I'm not pregnant, so the few podcasts I listen to are usually enough.

Yes, they did branch off from Young Living. If you search pinterest you will find a tonne of info on essential oils for insomnia.

Valerie, insomnia is frustrating.. I hope you'll be able to sleep normally again soon. I know what it's like to lose quality sleep...it makes me cranky and breaks my skin out.

What I've tried before were essential oils & self-hypnosis. I love Eucalyptus, it helps calm me down, but my sister hates the smell lol. And for self-hypnosis, I love Andrew Johnson: http://www.withandrewjohnson.com/collections/better-sleep

His self-hypnosis tracks are available as an app too, and they're cheaper: http://www.withandrewjohnson.com/pages/apps

Oh, and a little warning about Andrew Johnson: he has a Scottish accent. Some people find it off-putting and annoying, but I don't mind it.

I never sleep either. I have a really hard time getting to sleep and then my daughter sucks at sleeping too, so she wakes up me up multiple times a night. I"m perpetually exhausted! 6mg of melatonin before bed has helped me to initially get to sleep lately though. Instead of taking a few hours, it takes about 20-40 minutes to get to sleep now.
