Can I batch save PSD's as tiff's??

So I know we've said it, like, 894032890342 times before that tiff's are WAY smaller than psd's. But I never realized it until I bought something today. I went into the folder, and it was set to details, so the file sizes were showing. I was in shock! LOL!

So. Can I open a whole mess of PSD's (like some of the 849023890423 templates I have from Bree) and batch process them to save as tiff's??
 
I was wondering that too.. I use to save all my layouts as psd so I could change them (spelling errors) but switched to tiff about 3 months ago so I have a TON of them..

If I can make an action to do it, then the answer is yes.
Off to find out if I can make an action..... (if I can, I'll share it).

You can still go in and edit text when saved in a tiff. :thumbup:
 
Yes you can. Just create an action for it to convert your LO to a TIFF. Then go into Photoshop's [FILE][Automate][Batch] and set it up so that it runs the action on all the files in a certain folder. Then voila!

Exactly. I know how to batch like that, I just wasn't sure if it was possible to create an action to do the "save as" process. I'm testing my simple lil action now :)
 
You're using CS3 or 4, right? If so, File, Scripts, Image Processor. Just make the settings what you want and voila! PSDs are saved as TIFFS. :thumbup:

ETA--I think you can do that in CS2 as well. I didn't learn about it until I upgrade to CS4 though.

But yea, wrote my lil action and it worked like a charm! In the batch processor it asks you where you want the files to be saved and such, which was my only worry. WOOT! Now I'm going to spend the next 89034 hours converting my stuff. Should save me a TON of room!!
 
Hmmm.....I must have a setting wrong. My tiff's are like 10x's the size of the psd's.
Anyone wanna tell me their tiff settings?

It looks like the scripts and automate options do pretty much the same thing. Very cool though, thank you!
 
Basically. I use the image processor more since I convert PSD templates to TIFF all the time. I found it easier than having to adjust my save location each time with my action. It boils down to preference. :)

Ah, I see what you mean! I'm going to play tonight. I have a LOT of folders within my Bree folder. I'm a little scared to set it to do the whole Bree folder. My computer might melt :p
 
LOL...yeah, I'm sure there's a lot of templates in there! :D

I prefer creating a droplet from the action and then you just drag/drop that into the PSD folder, it'll do the hard part for you... :)
 
OMG. Seriously? Is there really that much of a file size difference between the 2? I just converted some of mine and holy cow I had no idea tiff's were so much smaller!!!!

I know right!! I was always like oh it's fine, whatever. Um yea, my Bree folder alone is over 1.5GB!! And that's AFTER going through and deleting all of the privacy images, TOU's, jpg's of the templates, etc etc etc. I'm excited to see how much smaller I can make it :p
 
Just for the record, the only reason I don't save as TIFF files is because only PSCS+ and PSE3+ can open those as layered files. PSP and PhotoImpact and earlier versions of PS and PSE can open PSD's. They also zip smaller (I was on dialup for a long time and couldn't upload the TIFF versions because the zips were like LOTS bigger, it would take me days, lol).

Image Processor rocks! I also use it to resize my pages for posting online.
 
Okay I am slightly confused...I just tried running the Image processor on a template...when I open the TIFF folder that CS3 creates after converting the file to tiff, and I see 3 new files...1) a 500x500 tiff (which obviously does nothing for me)...2) a tiff that is 5.98mb in size and 3) yet another tiff that is 2.26mb in size...how do I know between the last 2 which is the right one to use?

What settings/boxes do you have checked?

When you run image processor, make sure to uncheck "save as JPG" and under "save as TIFF," check the LZW compression box. That should do the trick.

Those were exactly the settings that I used. So strange. I just can't figure out the difference between the 2 except for the size difference...:confused:
