Do they check your residency? All they asked for was your email addy.

they might check it via IPs? they could automatically set it up to reject non-california IPs when the form is processed.

well it says right on it "Eligible signatories: Residents of California, 18 and over." .. so I don't want to risk borking it with invalid signatures

I got an email with a confirmation and a number so I think mine went through. The petition is just through a basic petition site though so I don't think the site itself would actually be checking anything.

I suspect you're right, but I think it's more about making a point that there are all these voices to be heard. I think they have been effective in drawing attention to how a large part of a population feels about an issue.
