breastfeeding help!

Hi ladies, I need some advice. My DS in 13 months old and is still nursing. I have been able to wean him on all feedings except for the night feeding. I know this is going to be the hardest. My DH and I are going on a little get away next Wednesday. I don't want to pump and I don't want to be engorged or uncomfortable while we are away so I need my son to wean this last feeding. So I need some advice, what did yall do to ease the difficulty when your child weaned the last feeding of the night? What did you replace the feeding with? Our bedtime routine consists of nursing, at that is all. I would like to read him a story but he doesn't sit still long enough for us to get through a book.

Sorry , this is long. I just need some advice or helpful hints. Thanks so much ladies.
 
Try a sippy cup of water and see if he'll sit still for you to read a story since he'll have something to occupy his little hands? At this point its more a comfort thing for your son...May try rocking him while he has a cup just so he's near you feeling safe.
 
I brought a bottle of water to bed with us. He slept with us, so it was more for comfort than nourishment, anyways, so as long as he could cuddle with us, he was fine with the bottle. As long as he doesn't fall asleep with the bottle in his mouth, he's fine. (Mine kills it and tosses it when he's done, like a frat boy with a beer, LOL)
He still puts his hand down my shirt when he's going to sleep though, and he's 18 months old and I nursed him at 12 months old.
 
You need a new comfort routine. Maybe a warm bath with a little baby oil rubdown. Some quiet time in a rocker with a sippy cup of water. As far as not being engorged next Wed if you are weaning....even if you go cold turkey today you are going to be engorged and uncomfortable... :( sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
 
er, yep - Amy's telling the truth from my experience. And yikes, but here's more -- until you get a new bedtime routine established, it can be tough getting the little one to bed...

personally, we love the sleep lady -- good luck!
 
If you're only nursing him once a day, there's a good chance you won't be engorged from missing one night. I was nursing Jasmine twice a day and Bekah 5-6 times a day when I weaned them cold-turkey, and I didn't really get engorged until 36-48 hours afterwards.
So if you don't have your heart set on weaning, you don't need to for one night!!! :)

We will actually be gone 5 nights. I was thinking if I wean him from the last feeding tonight that will give me an entire week before we leave to lose some of that engorgment feeling. I won't completely dry up but I just want to be comfortable while we are away so I can enjoy my trip with my husband.
 
I gradually weaned until they were only nursing once a day, and when we stopped, I never got engorged. It may not be too bad. As for how to wean, I replaced the feedings with a bottle, since they weren't quite a year old yet. I know that doesn't help you much, though!
