Brand Scrappin' New

So I'm new at this Digi Scrappin' thing and its hard to know how to start. I love buying cute digital kits, but after that I don't actually put together any pages.

I think I need to start doing some of the challenges. Are there any that you would recommend to a newbie?

Welcome! Welcome!

The Cookie Decorating is a great one to start off with. It already has the design and layers done for you...you just need to add the papers and elements.

Hi! :) Welcome to SSD! We have some fab challenges here that I really hope you jump in on... As a new scrapper you may enjoy the Cookie Challenges (templates), to give you an idea as to what to put where , how to bring it all together etc.. I'm always super impressed with the challenges the gals here come up with.

The challenges are great, especially the cookie decorating one. Definitely good for a newbie.

Also, I know Bree just put a lot of templates in the store last weekend. That might be a good place to start too. Put all those cute kits to good use :)

Ikeagoddess.blogspot is good for freebie templates too (am I allowed to post that? LOL!)

Thanks, the Cookie Challenges sound great!!

Any digital kits that you would suggest for someone starting out? Do I need to get basic colors, embellishments, etc?

Buy whatever you like, lol!

I do use Sara Amarie's "Basically Neutral" a good amount. Those journaling strips come in handy big time. And I'm a paper hog IRL, so I get paper packs a lot too, lol.

If you love doing title work, there are some amazing alphas here. I just picked up Zoe's "Down n Dirty" alphas (both sets, lol) cuz they're super versatile, and Robin's Collaged Floral Alpha cute it's super cute.

Lauren has some great colored cardboards that are awesome and on my wish list.

And I adore everything that Dani has ever created, lol.

There's SO MUCH awesome stuff here. It's my favorite shop.

My answer would be "all of it" lol...I'm a total shop-a-holic when it comes to digi stuff. I buy mostly kits because it gives you the ability to make layouts just using the papers/elements in the one kit instead of searching for things to put together, but it's a personal preference. :) I liked coordinating kits when I was a paper scrapper too, old habits die hard, haha.

Pretty much, go nuts in the SSD shoppe...you just can't go wrong here! :D

Oh sure, I try and narrow things down to help, and everyone else just says "buy it all"! That's what I wanted to say! LOL! And I agree with Bree, I love to buy coordinated kits.

A great way to try a bunch of different styles and elements are the Quarterly Assortments. All of the designers make a mini-kit to contribute, so you'll get a little flavor from everyone. :) The 4th volume for the year was just released and has samplers from all of our new designers too- 22 mini kits!

Best of luck!! And WELCOME!

Challenges are a great way to get started. I think the Cookie Decorating one already mentioned with the template would be good for you and also the Spin-a-Lift that is on the blog is good too since you are "copying" someone else's design. What program are you using? Do you need a tutorial on how to put a page together?

I'm using Photoshop CS3 because we already had the software since my husband is a web designer.

I have watched a few tutorial videos and my husband is my go-to person if I have any questions about Photoshop. I really need to check out some more tutorials because I feel like I only know the basics.

Thanks Teresa for the link to the Quarterly Assortments. Great tip!
