Books for a 14 year old

Looking to pick up a new book for my 14 year old's stocking. He's a solid reader, tends toward realistic fiction or sci-fi (not so much fantasy). Heavy content/theme ok. Last two books he appreciated were Ready Player One and The Hate U Give.

Anyone come across any great reads you can recommend?

If he read Ready Player One he'd probably like The Martian or Armada.
