Book suggestions for a 9 year old?

I'm definitely bookmarking this thread for reading suggestions!


My son likes Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, 39 Clues, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Geronimo Stilton, Thea Stilton.

We're kind of Magic Treehouse max'ed out. I guess I shouldn't have bought the box set from Scholastic, lol.

For animals, have you tried Black Beauty, or War Horse?

I'm going to check out Lemony Snicket for my son next.
 
This has turned out to be very resourceful! My ds (13) just read all the Wrinkle in Time books in a row, just ate them up. Also The Hobbit. I haven't thought of Black Beauty... duh. Haven't heard of the Redwall series but I'll look them up.

These were some of my boys' favorite books. I'm sure my oldest (he's 28) has read all of them...and he was pretty young when he started reading them.

They loved the Warrior series.
 
Ooooh I second (or third or fourth..lost count) Madeleine L'Engle's time quartet...I also love, love, love the Austin family books by her. I always loved how she intertwined characters from her different stories. I've long considered L'Engle my favorite author.
 
If you are interested in dystopian fiction, Margaret Peterson Haddix's books might be good as well. There is definitely some stuff to think about in them but maybe not quite as rough as the Hunger Games trilogy. The Shadow Children may be a good place to start.
