Birthday Idea Help!

So Peyton's birthday is coming up on July 20th and he will be 6 and I need some simple ideas for his little party. It is usually just us cause he doesn't handle alot of chaos well, but he loves it when I decorate and make it all fun! I always do them some kind of special cake too, so any cake ideas would be great as well :)

I would just put up lots of balloons and decorations of his favorite character and make his favorite food.

that is fabulous La and I would totally make cupcakes but I have been informed that I am NOT allowed to make cupcakes anymore for birthdays!

As a mom with a summer birthday (Xander's is July 15th) we keep it totally simple. I usually invite his bff or bffs out to froyo. This year we are doing the pool first then froyo since he's only having 4 friends come. (And pool is free) I need tips on decorating though. I haven't figured out how I'm going to decorate, but I'll do it at home for his actual bday. He's requested special breakfast and dinner. No cake or cupcakes. :/

I love me some birthday parties. I am one of those crazy moms that make a huge event out it. LOL

For Landon we have done.......(alot of these are in albums on FB, Angie)
Camping
Bugs
Pirate
Dinosaur

Some ideas that we have considered for the next one......
Nerf gun
Army
minecraft

Pinterest is my BFF during planning. I am currently planning our youngest son's birthday. Can't wait!

I'm not sure if Wreck-It Ralph is too intense for him, but we just had a birthday party where we all made little candy/cookie cars as the main event and then put them on top of the cake for decor. Then we made a box piñata to look like a building and wrecked it. Pretty low-key, but we had a lot of fun.

I am all about keeping it simple whenever possible. Some of my fondest birthday memories were the little parties we had, just us.

Send him through the "spanking machine" 6 times. It's a birthday tradition with our family. You go through however many times = your age. Here's a YouTube video of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugMp0bImam0 So fun! And, clearly, don't spank hard. It's fun. I will say, the older I got the harder I got spanked. LOL.

Another fun thing is to have a scavenger hunt. As a family, you can set up clues for him to find his birthday present(s) throughout the house and/or yard.

Let him pick what you make for dinner... his favorite meal. :) Then, let him choose what kind of cake he wants. It doesn't have to be super fancy. Just a normal boxed cake with icing and decorate with his favorite candy or cookie crumbles (M&M's, Oreo's, Peanut butter cups... kwim?). We always requested Carvel ice cream cakes for our family birthday parties. Mmmm.

We would often make our family party a special night by watching a new movie together or playing a board game. Mom would never decorate much, just streamers and balloons. :)

we are thinking about taking just the 6 of us and going on a 30 minute horse back ride because he went to a horse back riding party last year and it was amazingly therapeutic for him!

and we always do McDonald's for his birthday cause he LOVES a cheezeburger!

so I guess I just really need to decorate and then make him a cool cake :)

eta: Tara we did pirate last year and I did Minecraft for Ben's birthday this year and his cake turned out amazing!!!!

Oh, the horseback riding sounds awesome!!! I used to have a horse. Riding is therapeutic. :) I miss it! As for cool cakes... Pinterest is a minefield of cake ideas.

I love the Nerf gun idea, but I think we are going to go with a Lego theme! super easy for me and he already looked through Pinterest with me and picked out a couple of different ideas he liked!

I love the lego idea too but would rather do a lego party for next year with all his friends. The nerf party will just be family. Gonna surprise him with it when he wakes. ;)
Pt belts, glasses, guns, ammo, targets around the house, etc. But of course he needs a cake so I gotta get working on that part!
