Big $ hybrid tools do you use

The other thread about cheap hybrid stuff got me thinking... in case I find $10k in a cracker box like that couple in California (seriously, why can't that happen to me?)

What hybrid supplies, machines, tools, etc. do you love and think are worth the $?

I've never paper scrapped really- always been digi and now branching out into hybrid- so some of these tools and machines are completely unknown to me.

Plus I was up at 4 am and ended up watching a Cricut infomercial, so I started to wonder... thanks for any ideas!

I love my cricut, but I haven't used it much in the last year or so since I went digital.
I love my crop-o-dile and big bite.

I'd rather spend a little more on smaller things (like, Tim Holtz' entire collection of stuff) that make a big impact than on huge things now. The only other big ticket thing I can think of would be the bind-it-all, which I'll be buying next month, lol.

Mine (back in the day) was an ATG gun. It's the adhesive gun that framers use for framing. It runs $25-50 depending on where you can find a good deal, and the adhesives are so cost effective and AWESOME!!!!! It stuck just about better than anything I ever used besides liquid glue or the big xyron sheets.

I love my Cricut and my sizzix but if you are starting to get into hybrid stuff you might want to consider a decent printer

Yep, I love my ATG Gun! I also have a sizzix and a Quickutz and don't use either of them very much. I have a Xyron 900 that I'll use once in awhile for big things but more for DH when he wants to laminate something than for scrapping.

Like Col, I would love to have everything Tim Holtz makes, I have lots of his stuff and I just adore his products.

My next big purchase will be a pink Bind it All since it was the only thing I really wanted for Xmas that I didn't get.

I don't know Tim Holtz yet... going to google him...

Anyone have a cricut expression? What about that new Slice thingy?

my bind it all was one of the larger purchases last year. i use it all the time.
i agree about the printer, too. a decent printer is key when it comes to hybrid stuff.

the cricut expression is just a larger cricut machine. it cuts up to 24 inches i think? i could be wrong.
and i've heard mixed reviews on the slice. people love the portability, but there are plenty of glitches with it as well.

Totally. Tim Holtz rocks my socks. I loved the distressing inks, and after following his 12 days of tags, I want it ALL!!

The Cricut Expression is the 12" version of the original Cricut. Which is useless unless you're a teacher and could use it for bulletin boards (as far as I'm concerned anyway). I used my cricut ALL THE TIME before I went digi, and even now I don't use it for hybrid stuff. If I need a title, I go to my chipboard or letter stickers over the cricut.

I adore Tim Holtz! Talk about talent! He is the nicest guy too! I've had the pleasure of taking a class by him and it was awesome!

I have a word doc with his 12 Tags instructions if anyone would like it, just PM me your email!

I am a teacher, but hate bulletin boards and then I'd feel OBLIGATED to make really good ones! :)

Thanks for the ideas ladies!

Yea, I mean there are other fun applications for it (they came out with vinyl rolls so you can cut your own sayings like the ones you put on walls) but really that's what it boils down to for me. If you're not scrapping 12x12 pages all the times, I think the cricut expression is a waste. The regular one, you would get more use out of, but I still think it's unnecessary for hybrid stuff.

I love my bind it all! I have just branched into hybrid as well, so these are great ideas! Thanks!!

Essential $$$ Hybrid Supplies -
A good printer and quality paper and ink
Really good sharp trimmer and replacement blades
Good quality scissors
That's about it.

I have the smaller Crop-a-dile and I so wish I had seen the bigger one and got that! I have a laminator, but only use it a few times a year. I have a Sizzix mini machine that I never used and need to sell.

I also just got a Cricuit and I see endless possibilities with it for hybrid projects. Just cut out cereal boxes to make album shapes - I'm soooo there! I guess a bind it all will be my next big thing, althought right now I'm doing fine with those library rings.

I think the fun of hybrid is doing it on the cheap and using up any paper scrapping supplies I have around the house. But that's just me.

Ok, here's my 2 cents...

I have a Cricut and it has been such a waste of $$ for me, even when I paper scrapped! It's just a huge pain in my opinion and I had to replace those stupid mats ALL the time!! (I'm wondering if that had something to do with the humidity out here?? But I swear after only a handful of uses they'd lose their sticky). I've actually been trying to sell mine on Craigslist for MONTHS and nobody will buy it (and I'm only asking $75 WITH 2 cartridges!!!)

I do have a Sizzix Big Shot and use it DAILY - absolutely LOVE it. I have several of the nestabilities dies and use them A LOT for card-making and other hybrid projects.

Good paper trimmer with scoring blade....that scoring blade is a MUST for 3-D projects!!

I want a Cricut BAD!!!! I have the wishblade and have only used it twice. I'm thinking of selling it. I also have the Sizzix which I really don't use that often either.

Samara I had a Wishblade too. I thought it would be so fantastic, but could never figure out how to work the STUPID thing! I sold mine. I am also thinking of a cricut, but not sure it is worth it...I love digi!

Oooh - I've loved reading about all the tools that you like to use.... Sorry - I am newish here but I have been itching to post and jump in on the chatter - hope that's okay?...

I really feel I have to mention my CraftRobo here - is that okay?... I think it's like the wishblade... I love Robby Robo - he's great for tracing and cutting (that's cheating really isn't it :o ) and any size alpha I want etc etc... But he does let me down on the chipboard side of things which is definately where my Cuttlebug comes in and that's used constantly!!!

Ahhh.... Tools and Gadgets - my favourite wishlist things! I'd love a large printer (capable of 12 x 12) and a fantastic digi whizzy sewing machine and a professional digi cutter and I am daydreaming again.... sigh....

This is such a fab forum.......... Jenni.x.

WOOT! My Bind it all arrived today!!

Now I get to go shopping for stuff for it :)

Jump on in Jenni, we're a fun loving gang ;)

I have 3 die-cutting tools - Pazzles Inspiration, Big Shot, and the original Quickutz Squeeze. I have to say that I use every one of them and love each for different tasks. I'm 100% digital for scrapbooking, but for cards, personalized gifts and home decor projects I cannot tell you how invaluable these die-cut machines are to me.

I also just bought an inexpensive HP printer that will be dedicated to hybrid. I have and love the wide-format Epson 1800, but it's too expensive to use for pattern paper that I'm just going to cut up, ink up and glue up! LOL! So I save the Epson for my digi layouts and photos and will be using the HP for hybrid.

Now, are you sitting down?

I really don't care for my ATG gun!!!:thumbdown::thumbdown:
I can't get the thing to dispense the tape consistently and it ends up being too hit-or-miss. When it works, I love it. But I have to say that I dread reaching for it for fear that I'll have a battle with it. I really, really wanted to love it.
