Have you read any good books lately? I always love hearing other books that people have read.

I love mysteries/thrillers or YA best.

I loved "All The Girls I've Been" by Tess Sharpe. It's about a girl who was raised by her con-woman mother. She ends up in a bank during a heist with her ex-boyfriend and her girlfriend. It's really fun and exciting! I even preordered the sequel and I saw that Netflix is going to make a show! Super excited about that.

"The Agathas" by Kathleen Glasgow and Liz Lawson is about two girls who love Agatha Christie novels and use the author as inspiration to solve a mystery. There is a second book in the series too. Fun YA Mystery.

Do you have a book or two you'd recommend?

I love reading and everything about books, but my schedule these last few months has been beyond hectic. I've only managed to read one book: The Seven Sisters by Lucinda Riley. I liked it enough that now I have to go find/buy all the others in the series. One down 7 to go!

I read for a living currently (English grad student) so I don't have much time to read for fun, but some of the readings I did for this past semester were great! I love The Talk by Darrin Bell, who has won the Pulitzer prize for his political cartoons. This graphic memoir is about the talk he got from his mother when he was young why he couldn't play with a realistic looking water gun... and it goes on from there to explore the themes of racism. Great book, visually and thematically.

A Map of Home by Randa Jarrar is a coming-of-age story of a girl who grew up in Kuwait and Egypt and moved to the U.S. after the gulf war. Timely, though the war was really only the backdrop. Most of the book is her exploration of gender norms, sexuality, and relationship with her family, and how she found fulfillment in education and creative writing. Really funny novel, reads quick!

Anastasia and Amie, thanks for the recs. I'm determined to read something for fun this summer and I'll check those out!
 
OOh.... I'll be following this thread! I like to read but haven't had time to really sit down and read. What reading I'm doing is in form of prepping for school next fall... building up the media studies we are going to be doing... so what I do read at night to get back to sleep is not very brain challenging... haha.

The Girl Who Wrote in Silk. Loved it. Takes a time in history, in the Pacific Northwest, that I did not know too much about. It's a very moving story.

Since you really like mystery/thriller (I do, too!), I highly recommend the Detective Madison Harper Series by Wendy Dranfield. Right now there are 7 books, and I've read 4 so far.

An Invisible Client by Victor Methos is another really good mystery/thriller.
 
Most of the books I loved to read/listen to this year are Dutch / European originals, so not really a help for those in the US.

I mostly read feelgood / romance / historical novels.
Since I'm into the audiobooks I have discovered some fun books by Cathy Bramley, Christie Barlow, Annie Darling, Holly Martn, Sarah Bennett, Nicola May and Holly Hepburn. Most of them might be British, tho.
 
I loved The Agathas! I like the Truly Devious series, too.

My absolute favorite series ever are by MC Beaton: the Agatha Raisin mysteries and Hamish Macbeth series. They are cozy murder mysteries, so not a lot of gore or suspense but entertaining and character driven. I'm almost finished reading the Hamish Macbeth series for the third time; they're almost like background noise.
 
I love to read! Just finished Mind Games by Nora Roberts - loved it!
I am definitely going to check some these out as I am struggling to find something interesting but fun
 
I have found an awesome series! It's everything I love! Old houses, hauntings, and a back-in-time kind of feel. I love how it is based on the same old house from its beginning to modern day. I live in an old 1880s house and wish I knew its stories. I've read two books a night as it's so good! I usually read "real" books but these are free with my Amazon Unlimited subscription. I'll be sad when this series ends.

My favorites will probably always be Count of Monte Cristo, Jane Eyre, Anne of Green Gables, and Little Princess.

BUT!! I've been trying to reach out lately and I just finished this one. It was funny! There was a little bit of language and I wasn't a super fan of taking the Lord's name in vain, but I'm also a prude like that. Apparently there are 5 books in this series and I will probably eventually read them alll.

I read the other 2 Lisa Gardner Frankie Elkin books and they were great.

She's Not Sorry by Mary Kubica (this took me a day to read)
Think Twice by Harlen Coben (we got to meet him and visit with him in person)
Holmes Marple and Poe by James Patterson
Queens of London by Heather Webb (about a crime ring in London during the 20's)
The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hedrix (another horror/paranormal book set in the 80s/90s)
Currently reading the Housemaid series by Frieda McFadden (I have read 2 and am on the third...very fast paced read).
 
I'm currently in the middle of book 85 for the year but my pace is slowing down because of the Summer Scrap-A-Thon :p

I have a few standout favorites to recommend:
  • The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer - think Charlie & the Chocolate Factory but beloved children's novelist
  • The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow - a love letter to storytelling and journeys
  • Lucky Red by Claudia Cravens - lesbian Western **be warned: it's pretty spicy**

I also spent last fall FINALLY reading The Dark Tower by Stephen King and I need to forget it so I can reread it again.
 
I just finished the second book in this series, and it is SO MUCH FUN! The characters in the stories are just the best. It's one of those books that makes you laugh and cry on the same page.
