Best diaper rash remedies?

Harper had the worst rash I've ever seen, it he woke up like 2 mornings in a row, poopy, and it looked awful, got to the point it was even bleeding.

We got it cleared up, almost, alternated diaper rash creams, air dry, aveno oatmeal baths, and hydrocodone cream. It was really starting to look better, still a little purple in the really bad spots, I went back to cloth diapers today, because last night he started crying again and it's starting to look bad a again, not like before, but I'm afraid of it getting to that point again.

Keira use to get bad yeast ones when she was a baby, and the doctor told me to mix a paste of Maalox, desitin, and lotrim. So I did that today, but it didn't want to stick to his butt.

Any help you can give, i'd greatly appreciate it. I hate to take him to the doctor for a diaper rash.
 
Grace had a bad case of it as a baby, it turned out to be a food allergy that kept causing it (dairy). We got some prescription cream to heal it and then afterwards I almost always kept A&D Ointment on her bottom, at each diaper change. If it got red I switched to the ZInc A&D Ointment. It's the only thing that kept it at bay once the prescription cream cleared it up.
 
Good to know. I'm going to see how it looks over the weekend and i can't clear it up I'm going to make him an appointment on Monday.
 
For most rashes Mase gets coconut oil works like a charm, I just cover his butt in it when he's teething because otherwise it's all raw and red. However, he does get HORRIBLE yeast infections whenever he's on antibiotics and our doctor had to prescribe him some heavy duty yeast medicine for that. I can't remember what it's called though and we ran out the last time he had one.
 
Oh and the best thing I've noticed (with 4 kids worth of diapering) is to let sore bottoms go naked as often as possible.
 
A couple of times my boys got bad rashes because of the night time poops. I mainly used Aquaphor, but when it got really bad I put Crisco Shortening on after the Aquaphor. It puts an amazing coating on it, to protect from the next wet and dirty diapers. Coconut oil might work the same. This was a recommendation from a nurse. I hope it's better soon.

I think I have some shortening! He's napping now, but I'm going to try these for sure!
 
Ella had it really bad once and her doc said to use original desitin..(which is hard to find these days) and layer it on really really thick..like icing a cake lol. It kept the moisture off and she was better in a day or two..hers was bleeding too.
 
my kids get really bad diaper rashes as we have sensitive skin. the only thing that really worked for my kids is putting lanolin (the nipple cream) on their butts and then slather diaper cream over top

Oh, yes! This works too. :) I used lanolin when I ran out of A&D ointment. Although the lanolin was too pricey for me to use on a regular basis. Haha...
