Best Buy

I am watching the news tonight and there was a story about a little boy (13 years old) who saved his money to buy an Xbox 360. He gets it home and finds out the Xbox 360 is used so he tries to return it and even with the receipt Best Buy's management refused to accept the return  Defenitely not cool IMO. I understand there is a chance the family is lying about it being like that from the box but what are you supposed to do if you buy something and bring it home and it is used? It does happen...its happened to me and my husband twice. Once with a VCR years ago and once with a vacuum cleaner.

Oh poor kiddo!

That happened to me a few years ago. I bought some shoes, got them home and then decided I didn't like them. Took them back and they looked like they were worn (I hadn't taken a step in them)! Thankfully they were understanding and took them back.

stories like that just make me sad. I wish I could buy the game system for him myself and donate it anonymously because you rarely hear of kids actually saving for something like that and I can only imagine how disappointed he was finding that

We had the same thing happen at Walmart a few years ago when my DH bought a PS2, we got it home and opened it up and it was obviously used because the fan/vent thing was all dirty and there was something else wrong with it! We returned it right away and I had to do quite a bit of ranting and raving to several CS people and managers before they finally okayed us getting a different one which we broke the seal on and checked it before we ever left the store with it! We've never had any trouble with CS at BB so I'm surprised they didn't exchange it for the poor kid!

You know, if you return it right away and don't wait a day (or two or three) why shouldn't they believe you? Most places put the time on your receipt.

IDK maybe they are having problems with this? The thing is they charge like 15% restocking fee which I always assumed if you brought something like that back they checked it to see if it was all there and actually new. the boy and his dad have a meeting with a district manager tomorrow so Im hoping they do the right thing for him.

If they're not lying about it, then that's pretty darn crummy. Still..he's just a kid right? But there's business rules and all that. Sigh.
Hopefully some local good Samaritan will see the story and make sure the little boy has a brand spankin' new Xbox under the tree for Christmas.

poor kid.
Same thing happened to my husbands ex last Christmas with PS2 from Target. They exchanged it with no problem and she didn't know it was
used until Christmas day when my stepson opened the gift.

Does you news have a web page that contains clips of the story? If so, I would send the link to Best Buy corporate office. Bet that would get things changed!! Or at least noticed.

What a horrible Best Buy! Our Best Buy in town is usually really good about stuff like that. You would've thought that they would've at least exchanged it for a new one.....or did he want his $$ back??

as far as I know he only wanted a new one. It said he was trying to exchange it so I assume that meant he just wanted a new one. I tried to find the story online to link here but I could not find it on the site anywhere.

You know, I'm not surprised one bit. Best Buy is my least favorite store on the planet. They have absolutely the worst customer service. Unfortunately it's my husbands favorite and we're in there a lot.

My EX husband would keep his game system boxes so when they broke he could take them in and exchange them. I don't know how he got away with that crap but it's just one thing in a long, long list of why we're not together anymore. He was such a creep and people like this kid are paying for his thieving dishonesty. =(
