Beatles Stereo vs. Mono boxed sets

I'm trying to figure out HOW to justify spending $210-250 on the Beatles new boxed set...how can I convince dh? We have NONE of their music outside of the few 45 RPMs we have on our jukebox. Any ideas?

...and I can't figure out..even reading the following...which set I would want... my first instinct is stereo...but... what are your thoughts? Do you have this set? Are you glad you purchased it...or do you wish you had just bought the individual albums? (oh look I'm dating myself! albums, 45s etc. lol) ....ok which set do I want...stereo or mono...and why...or do I want to buy individually? (but it looks more expensive that way)

Thanks for your help! Thinking this could be the other thing on my Christmas list (i.e. Beatles or a wide angle lens for my camera)

Wish I could get them on 78 RPMs...would love to fill our Wurlitzer with nothing but the Beatles!

Here are pics of the jukeboxes my dh has refurbished! Wouldn't it be cool to have these new CDs actually as records on my jukeboxes?

The set is gonna be a much better deal. As far as stereo vs mono, I am assuming it was originally recorded mono, but stereo is gonna sound better. So its more if you want the original way or better sound.
 
I am a HUGE Beatles fan! Unfortunately, I already own pretty much all the music that is included in this box set, so I really can't justify the cost of buying it.

From what I understand, the Beatles purposely recorded in mono because they preferred that sound. So, I would go for mono if I had the choice - closer to what they intended it to sound like. But, they did not release as many copies of the mono version, and it is much harder to find. So, in reality, stereo might be your only choice.
 
No idea on the Beatles thing, but nice jukeboxes!! My dad has a couple too, I'll have to see if I can get pictures of them and his antique radio collection.

And Sharon, you're not aging yourself using terms like 45 and album. ;)

Well I suggested to my 14yo that he should think about asking for the Beatles rock band (Wii) for Christmas...and he said huh? I dunno. ...it was then that I realized I did not bring my kids up on Beatles! ackk! :blink: ...and I should have!

That would be fun to see! I made my dh a scrapbook years ago of him restoring these 2 jukeboxes and the 3 pinball machines...but we sold the pinballs because we flat out ran out of floor space in our house! lol

LOL, maybe YOU should ask for that for Christmas...and Led Zeppelin is SOOOO much better! :p
 
Ok...I'm just getting these vibes that dh is NOT going to go for a full kit like this...but I could buy an album here and there....

What are your top 2 favorite Beatles albums?
 
Wow - that is hard!

My all-time favorite is Revolver.

After that, I have a hard time choosing. If you love their earlier stuff, I really like With the Beatles or Beatles For Sale.

If you favor their later music, I would suggest Abbey Road or Let It Be.

But, Revolver is a must!

Also, if you can find 1962-1966 (Red Album) and 1967-1970 (Blue Album), those are really good compilations! I especially love 1967-1970.
 
Yeah...not quite sure if my likes are earlier or later...never paid attention to that...guess i am going to have to go on itunes and see if everything is there for those 30 second listening

ok since I had the discount last week I picked up the Blue album 1967-1970! It was $34 and I got 30% off...saved me some $$! Thanks! :thumbup:
 
Oh good! I'm glad you got it and that you like it! It really is a great compilation! Makes me want to go listen to it right now! :)
