Backblaze back-up

My Mozy is running out at the end of the month so I started with Backblaze a few days ago. But it says it's going to take 63 days to back everything up! :blink:

I know a lot of you switched to it - do you remember how long it took for the initial backup?
 
Mary, I started my Backblaze on February 16, it says I have 10 days left before the initial back up is done. I do have it set for a slower speed and don't leave my laptop on all night for it to work then. So it's really a YMMV type of thing. Settings and availability will change the length of time it takes to back up.
 
I don't remember how long, but it took a long time! Not as long as they had predicted (which was about 6 months) though. If you can set it to backup faster at certain times (e.g., when you are going to bed), it'll go much faster.
 
Mine says 35 days, but my computer is less than a year old so I don't have tons of stuff on it.
 
mine took about -5 months but i let it run on high when I had my computer on and i have about 250gb worth of scrapbooking stuff if not more
 
a long time because it keeps pausing on me. I have to turn my firewall off to backup and I dont always remember to do that :(
 
I played with my settings and mine went faster. The times I was not on the computer I maxed out my backup speed and lowered my internet speed. Then I did opposite when I needed to be on the internet. I think it took me 10-12 days total. It said a crazy amount at the beginning though. I don't remember that number. I just remember being happy that it was under two weeks. :)

Something else I did to give me peace of mind before I started doing my online backup was doing a back up on a separate EHD. Then I knew I had all the information so it really didn't matter how long it took. I wanted to have it on an EHD anyway to store in our safe deposit box so this worked for me.

Also.....I did a full back up from backblaze and it was AWESOME!!! I was switching computers and had to get all my info on my new computer. It worked like a charm and was very fast!
 
My initial backup with BackBlaze took maybe 6 weeks or so but I was backing up both my HD and EHD for about 600GB total so it was a ton of files to backup. I had my settings so that my PC was on all the time and it was backing up at the fastest speed. When I was with Mozy prior to that my initial backup took months and months and I didn't have nearly the amount of stuff to backup back then.

I switched my settings too and it went much faster. Maybe a few weeks? And with my laptop being in the shop this week, I've needed to get access to some of the files and I just downloaded them from Backblaze as a restore. LOVE it!!
 
I signed up in December and it just finished about a month ago! lol, I guess I have lots of stuff on my computer!! I got 2 years of Backblaze for only $80 so the time it took to set up was no biggie- well worth it :)
 
Oh my, you all are seriously scaring me! I wish I had known to start my backup earlier. I do have an EHD, but it's not big enough, I don't think. I guess I'll just make sure the most important stuff is on there. Orrrr...right now I have 2 EHDs from the high school...maybe I can store some stuff on those temporarily.

And VERY glad to hear someone has already done a restore. I had to do a restore from Mozy about 18 months ago and it worked great...except the wrong email system was backed up and I didn't realize it. Lost 10 years worth of emails. :(
 
I love backblaze too :) It didn't take too long b/c I adjusted my settings to be fast when I wasn't on then slower when I was using the computer. It was also a new computer so I had nothing on it but I did back up my EHD (most of it before it died)
 
It took me 2-3 months to do the backup but I didn't leave it running during the day. I let it run overnight while I was home. It took a while but once the initial backup is done, it does the incrementals really fast. I think it is faster than Mozy was. Mozy also really slowed down my PC. I didn't realize it until I removed Mozy and went with Backblaze.
