I bet I am one of the first to have kiddo's in school already :thumbup: . Our district goes yearound, which overall is very nice! But it does make summer super short. So today, my oldest started second grade! She is getting to be such a big kid. I am not super sad, but I do know that this time next year, when my baby starts Kindergarten, I will likely be a basket case! I don't know where the time has gone.

I wish we did all year school, the did it the year my oldest son was in Kinder and it rocked! Does seem a little early for first day of school photos though huh? Was she super excited?

I wish we did yearound here, but too many people like to go away for the whole summer b/c it's so hot.

She was very excited, not nervous at all. And we love it! We get 3 weeks plus off in fall & spring when the weather is much more tolerable, as well as three weeks off for the holidays. It sets a good balance so they don't get too bored at school or at home.

yeah the school district I moved from went to school for 6 weeks, then got a week off so they had a fall break, winter break, spring break along with 2 weeks at Christmas it was pretty nice when my kids were in school. I can imagine it would be hard for parents though that coudln't fix their work schedule around it.

Now our school schedule is kinda weird...lots of half days here and there...kinda weird but I'm sure my kids wont' mind it. We go back Aug 7th (a thurs! lol)

The school year here {in Malaysia} runs from January to December, and I think we're really gonna like it when Jack goes to school. They get two school holidays of 2-3 weeks, a week long holiday for Ramadan {the Muslim fasting month} and then they finish about mid-December. Plus, Malaysia recognizes four official religions, so we celebrate holidays for all of those. The crazy thing is, at least in our area, schools are half days, so that you have one group in school from 7-12 and another in class from 12-5 {approximately}. Jack, who's 3, already goes to pre-school from 8-12, so it won't be a big change for him once he starts kindergarten in a couple of years. {sniff sniff}

Australia is Jan to Dec and is broken into 4 terms. Term 1 starts in the last days of Jan and goes to Easter and they have 2 weeks holiday. Term 2 then goes till July and then another 2 weeks holiday. Term 3 goes till October and 2 weeks holiday. Term 4 finishes a week before Christmas. Then about 6 weeks till the new school year.

School here doesn't start until August 21st. I think I wouldn't mind them going year round. My youngest DD was in school for the first time last year and I think she is getting bored with summer so for her it would be great to go year round. Plus I would love to have the longer breaks.
