We went to pick up something for dinner and the grocery store we shop at had one of their buy this get these free deals. So we bought two big bags of Tyson chicken nuggets which came to 15 dollars and we got a 2 liter of soda, corn on the cob, bbq sauce and a 1/2 gallon of ice cream free. Of course its not the healthiest food but with the kids being out for school soon I need something easy and cheap for lunch and the kids love chicken nuggets. Anyhow this was at Winn Dixie for those who have them nearby. I think they are primarily in the southern US.

I was just complaining to my bff about how much my groceries cost today. I had three shopping bags full of fruit and vegs...cost me SEVENTY dollars. Lettuce was $3 a head. I'm dying over here. I am moving south LOL

oh fruit is pretty cheap here too. We just bought 3 pounds of blueberries at a blueberry farm for 6 dollars (suppposed to be 9 but my husband did not have enough cash on him so they guy said just dont worry about it.) It was a u-pick place so we actually had to pick them ourselves. We bought two coconuts for a dollar and watermelons are between 2 and 4 dollars during the summertime. We eat tons of fresh fruit in the summertime but we buy locally so it is alot cheaper. when it is winter time we go to a local orange grove and buy a big paper grocery bag full of navel oranges for 5 dollars (usually about 30-40 oranges).

YIKES! Last week I spent $10.33 on fresh fruit. I got 6 peaches, a cantaloupe, a pineapple, 5 lemons, 5 limes, and a mango. I was so excited- usually $10 only gets me cantaloupe, 3 peaches, and a pineapple.

We try to buy in season and try to make our meals mostly veg and fruit if we can. We find that if we cut the meat out of the menu or keep serving sizes down, our grocery bills are much cheaper. A serving of meat is actually much smaller than most people think it is anyway so this is a healthier option anyway. Try checking out your local farmer's market if you have one.
