Austin girls...

We're coming to Austin next month (and maybe we can meet up at ChickFilA in Round Rock again for lunch? (you'll get to meet the man!!).

I need recommendations for a decent yet cheapish hotel in the area, and something to do as a family with our afternoon that's not going to Inner Space Caverns (OH! D'OH Bats...bats...time for the bats! That may be our fun thing!) - well, something for the afternoon. I know all the usuals, but do you have any recommendations about where NOT to stay, etc.? It's funny - all the time I've spent in Austin, between working there and living there and visiting friends, I've never stayed in a hotel there. When I was at B&N, we'd just head straight to San Antonio to see the next set of stores, so never stayed over.

We expect to be meeting friends in Austin for dinner, so won't have a ton of time, but would love something to keep us occupied if we so feel the need. Barton Springs probably won't be the best idea in mid-October, but who knows? LOL

Sunday - we're going to Bookpeople to meet Alton Brown (:thumbup:) and then driving straight home.

Oh please please please let's do Chick Fil A in RR!!!!!! Just let me know when! Are you looking to stay in Austin or RR? I can give you some ideas in RR.

Darcy, do you want to do Round Rock - or Georgetown? We met in Georgetown before, but RR would be fine too. I think several of the girls live in RR anyway.

We stayed at the Staybridge Suites in RR when we were having new flooring installed. As I remember, it wasn't too expensive, very roomy & great breakfast area. Hotel was very nice & clean. I've never stayed at another hotel nearby, so I couldn't advise much more than that. HTH.

In RR, actually just down from that hotel along I35 is a very large bat colony. Not the Congress Bridge colony in Austin, but one under McNeil bridge in Round Rock. It's easy to get to, never crowded, and always a good show. Supposedly, this colony has grown so much in the last few years that its population is close to that of the Congress Bridge crew.

Really looking forward to meeting you guys - - I'll see if Brandon can meet up w/ us too & meet your guy :)

YAY!!! I'm in!!!! I was JUST thinking I need to post about an Austin area get-together (school is kicking my butt and I just haven't had the time). Priscilla and I got our kids together and had so much fun. Looking forward to meeting y'all in person! :)

I'm so happy you get to lay those eyes on Alton in person....are you swooning?

I'll definitely try to make it :)
