DF's snoring is driving me cuckoo!!!!
Its currently 11.33pm and I should go to bed, but I just figure whats the point when I cant sleep anyways. He is snoring so loudly that I can hear him down the other end of the house when he has the door closed!! I cant stand it anymore, he uses a spray but it just seems to not be working anymore. I dont know what else to do, im at my wits end.

I just went down and had a go at him (I know, heartless arent I?) and Im not even half way through typing this message and he has started snoring again..

PLEASE help me!!!!

Perhaps he can't help it? I snored VERY loudly too until I found out that I had obstructive sleep apnea and couldn't help it. Ever since I got my CPAP breathing machine, I haven't snored at all.

My hubby sleeps in the basement (on a double bed) now because of his snoring. He moved down there in October and came back up for a few weeks around Christmas because it wasn't that bad anymore, then it went back to being bad and he's been down there ever since. I know he'd rather be upstairs (and I would love for him to be too) but it's best if he's downstairs. Otherwise I would get NO sleep. So, we just have "visits" to one another every once in a while. ;)

Paula, I have sleep apnea too and was a terrible snorer before. Now that I have my CPAP, not only do I NEVER snore, but I am getting the best sleep of my life.

Seriously, though Brooke. Its worth it to get him checked for sleep apnea. Not only is it disruptive to his sleep and everyone else's around him, but there are a ton of other problems that go along with apnea, like pretty major heart problems as the years go by.

Good luck, hon.

Jenny, doesn't it make a HUGE difference? I never felt better and I have never awakened with another stupid headache like I did before I got my CPAP. Ugh!!

Yeah, its pretty amazing. I had no idea how much BAD sleep I was getting until I started getting good sleep. I've honestly never felt better.

Oy! Hope you get some rest sweety!! I snore when Im sick and when Im pregnant and I know I drive Wes nuts LOL

Jenny and Paula my dad has bad sleep apnea and is supposed to be on a cpap machine. He has one but doesnt use it. I am gonna have to tell him how much of a difference its made for you ladies and maybe he will smarten up!

My doctor actually told me that when someone has sleep apnea and doesn't get the help they need, it can cause serious heart problems including hardening of the arteries - because the heart isn't getting the oxygen it needs during sleep.

My sleep apnea was SO bad that I had 156 occurrences (whether snoring, stopping breathing, teeth grinding whatever) an HOUR and I never hit REM sleep once the entire night and you should hit REM 4-6 times a night. Plus, my oxygen levels dropped to below 30%.

Since getting on the CPAP, I have zero occurrences, my oxygen levels are in the 90s and I hit REM 5 times a night. I don't wake up with headaches and I don't snore anymore PLUS I have a good healthy heart even for as heavy as I am.

So I am a BIG advocate of checking out snoring. Ear plugs is great for YOU, but will it help your dad?

Yup, ditto the Darth Vader machine.

My dad finally got one, after having years of sleep apnea, and now never snores as long as he has it on. Of course, the machine itself makes noise, but it's a pleasant-ish white noise noise, kwim?

Of course, now my mom is at the age and weight where she needs one, too, but not sure if she's looked into it yet or how it would affect her severe sinus/asthma issues.

I snored pretty badly before I lost a bunch of weight. Now I don't snore anymore, but I still feel like I have some level of apnea. I wake up with headaches more often than I should and I never really feel rested. I'm always tired. That's not normal... especially since right now I'm getting around 8-9 hours of sleep a night.

Great point, Paula! I guess it never occured to me that my hubby's snoring was health related since he's in great physical shape. I'll NEVER get him to go to the doctor so I'll have to do a little research on it first. I just started wearing ear plugs and have never looked back. :)

I'm such a snorer myself, too, but I know that mine is due to my weight. My doctor referred me to the Sleep Apnea clinic but I'm super freaked out about going. I just can't see myself wearing that CPAP machine while I sleep. I already feel like a freak from all my surgical scars, etc.

Paula, I'm sure I already know the answer to this, but were you tired all the time before you started using the CPAP machine?

Tony just did a sleep test last week to check for this. I have been having horrible sleep because he snores so much, and quite franky, I was getting pissed off. Here he was snoring his head off, oblivious to anything, and I had to go down and sleep on the couch.

He is just waiting now for the results from that. I hope they help him, or soon I won't be sleeping with him at all, something we don't want.

Thanks so much ladies. I know its not his fault, but Im cranky because Ive barely slept because of it. It seems to be getting worse, so Im going to have to make him get checked out.

Im going to get a humidifier for the room, I know we used to have one and it worked 100% but it crapped out.

DH is a snorer too...but his comes and goes...I think his depends on his allergies and whether his sinuses are stuffy or not...I've had some periods where I've made him go sleep on the couch...right now though, with him being deployed, I'd love to hear him snoring next to me :(

Oh yea!! I was tired all the time. I would fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I also never had any energy. It was awful.

You could also have him try those Breathe right strips. That helped my dad with his snoring.

DH doesn't have apnea (he got tested but I knew it anyway because I'd sit there watching him sleep LOL), he tried the Breathe Right strips (didn't work) and I tried the ear plugs (didn't work, he was still too loud, plus they are uncomfortable) so, last option was for him to sleep somewhere else. :(

when dh snores i punch him in the face churck norris style...that takes care of things. LOL!! that blows to not be getting any sleep...hopefully it'll all get figured out soon!

I use to sleep through DH's snoring but ever since the kids came, we've been sleeping on different beds with a kid each (didn't have enough room for a crib). Now that the kids are older we've tried to sleep in the same bed but I usually end up moving to the other room b/c of his snoring. I can't fall asleep in the middle of the night when I hear it. The more tired he is, the louder he snores. Ugh!

I made him get up and have a big drink of water when I went to bed, then he had some of his snoring spray and I put the heater on. He squeeked a bit through the night but no more snoring. Thank goodness. So I got a little sleep.

I was just going to suggest getting him tested at a sleep clinic. My hubby snored when we first got married and it got progressively worse (as he gained weight, too)...when Mason was in the hospital when he was 2, the first few days we had a nurse in our room and she would check Mason and THEN Trev because he was snoring so loud and stopping breathing. They told him he probably had sleep apnea, so he got tested a few months later and sure enough - sever sleep apnea. He got a CPAP machine and never snores and is getting good sleeps like he hasn't had since he was a kid, lol. AND, as an added bonus...I also get to sleep, lol! ;)

ETA: Paula, about the always-tired thing...my hubby would fall asleep standing up at work (he's a welder), or sitting at traffic lights. Scary stuff!! :(

I started falling dozing off at traffic lights too, Bree. And I had to take a 2-hour nap EVERY SINGLE DAY just to make it through the day and I was still tired! And this was after getting 7-8 hours of sleep every night!! My apnea is pretty severe too (I would have it even if I wasn't overweight, but my weight isn't helping it any either). Its just such a difference for me!!

My DH got his CPAP machine this year and it saved our marriage. I wasn't sleeping because I spent my nights making sure he was breathing. I would have to wake him to make him breathe. But life is good now and I love that little machine. Our fan is actually louder than his machine.
