Argh!! Deep root scaling

Let me preface this by saying that I am abnormally TERRIFIED of the dentist which is odd because I've never (knock on wood) had any cavities or wisdom teeth or anything like that. I just have CRUMMY gums.

So, I down the valium to go to the dentist. I get there, expecting to have xays and all that, but they said that they knew I was terrified, so that today they were just going to take a look in my mouth and assess what needs done and I'll have my "real" appointment next week. They even comped today! LOL

So, I was given the news that I indeed need a deep root scaling because my gums are awful. Next week, they will take xays and all that, but I was told my teeth are in good shape, just the gums are crap. So, I guess I'll be downing MORE valium this month. If I don't take it, I'll completely panic right there in the waiting room! LOL

Maybe with all the extra nice treatment today, next time won't be so scary. So sorry that you have to deal with any of it though. Good Luck with all this.

Soundsl ike they're really understanding of your fears though!! That's nice, I've been to some that just don't care how you're feeling! I hope it goes smooth and worry free for you next week!

Thanks girls! I was very happy that they took baby steps with me. Man, I can't even put into words the terror I feel thinking about the dentist.

Oh Paula... I really DO feel your pain hon. And, with my recent experience with my wisdom teeth, I'm no closer to resolving my hateful feelings toward the dentist in the least.

I know it's not going to be fun, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that your dentist does a quick, great job and that you have very little if any discomfort afterward.

Omg, I totally understand, Paula. I have to take a xanax to go to the dentist. I'm so terrified of going this time. I need to get better insurance, my pregnancies totally screwed my teeth up... apparently that happens to some women?? I had no idea!

Good luck!

Paula, I feel you! I had to have it done a couple of years ago, and probably need to again. It wasn't as bad to me as a cavity, though, honestly, just a little more soreness afterward.

And Bryn, pregnancy has absolutely ruined my teeth. My dentist told me that was just an old wive's tale, but I swear it's true.

I am deathly afraid of the dentist also! I have a tooth way back on top on my left side that is broken and really show come out, but I just avoid chewing on that isde and keep putting off..sigh...
