What an eventful night! Around 3:20 am or so here the alarms went off in our apartment building. I dont mean the smoke detectors but the insanely loud one that the fire department has to come for. Its happened a few times and we usually wait up here and they check and leave. Well there was a horrible fire locally and it was BAD. All 150 units were burned down. It was so bad in fact that they are obviously not taking precautions which is fine of course. Anyhow at around 3:45 my neighbor came up here frantically ringing the bell. I live on the third floor and Wes had already left for work. My kids were half naked. I have a 5 year old, a 3 year old and a 1 year old. Its raining out. I had to frantically dress the kids and get all three down by myself and wait in the cold with three tired fussy kids for 20 minutes in the rain to find out my dumb ass downstairs neighbor burnt food on teh stove and the smoke set the alarm off. That was it. So we are all back upstairs safe thank god but what an ordeal. I hope they all go to bed fairly easily its now 4:15 am and I know I am ready to fall into bed. Just waiting for Noah to nurse back down.
Thanks for letting me rant. I really am so greatful that there was no real fire and we are safe. Just frustrated at our lack of responsiblity in having an appropropriate plan of action. As soon as Wes gets home today thats the first thing I think we have to discuss. Hope everyone is sleeping tight if it applys.

ETA I spelt appropriate so horribly wrong and im to lazy to fix it LOL
 
Uggghhh! That stinks! Hope you get some sleep. Turning off your computer will help with that. ;)
 
That is scary and irritating at the same time. I am sorry you had to deal with that and that the little ones got disturbed too! I hope you were able to get everyone back to sleep and get some rest yourself!
 
oh that is so not fun! glad it was nothing serious and the rest of your day is peaceful
 
How scary! At the very least at least you have the peace of mind that the alarms do work! Hope the kiddos slept in a bit
 
Oh Sarah that sucks! I'm glad that it wasn't a real fire and I hope the kids all went back down easily for you!
 
LeeAndra.. I was going to ask the same?? Who cooks toast at 4am??

I am sure glad it wasn't real though... but better to be safe than sorry in these situations! I hope you get to nap or rest a bit today!
 
The worst part of these things is it makes it harder to take the alarms seriously the next time it happens. What a bummer about the burnt food causing all this hassle. I hope you get some good sleep this morning or a nap today.

Awwww thank you all for the sweet responses. I feel like the lving dead this morning but a few cups of coffee and hopefully I will feel more like myself LOL. I so wish today was Saturday though lol! Oh well Lily will have something exciting to tell her friends at school today! lol!
 
That's so crazy! Glad everyone is safe and that it was a false alarm!

Fires scare me to death, just thinking of all the "memories" (photos, scrapbook pages, etc) that I have that can be gone in the blink of an eye. Obviously my first thought is how to get my kids out, but I always think "what if" and how I would manage to save my memories.
 
Oh Sarah, sorry you had to deal with that. My kids are the same age as yours and I know how it is dealing with them by yourself.
 
Oh how irritating! I'm glad it was nothing serious, but how frustrating that you had to frantically juggle all the kids solo in the middle of the night in the rain! Hope you all were able to get some good rest!
 
Yeah, the thought of fires freaks me out so bad, and I hate that in apartment buildings there is so much that is out of your control. Sorry you had to go through that, Sarah! So, I'm guessing today is going to be a 2 pot day for coffee?

And in defense of cooking at 4 am, not everyone works 9 to 5. ;) My hubby is often getting home at that time or later, and then other times he's getting up then to go to work. I mean, my honest guess is that the guy was likely some idiot getting home late from drinking, but just sayin', some people have weird work schedules and they like to eat too. :)
 
And you didn't grab the computer? LOL

on a serious note, oh my gosh that would be awful!!!!!!!!! I would have been so angry! Its amazing you got your kids to go back to bed!
 
Aww thank you again girls, yes fire scares the living daylights out of me! And realising how long i took to dress the kids in the event it WAS a real fire we would be in big trouble. My heart just breaks for anyone that has to lose anything in that manner!!

Well, you know, it was probably some drunken idiot, lol. But, yeah, some of us have weird work hours, like my hubby. Or are just freakish night owls, like me... but 4 am is pushing it, even for me!
