...i took a quiz on who i should vote for, Obama or McCain. i was pretty much in the middle, lol. which makes sense as i've never voted; i get so overwhelmed with comparing the policies, and usually i always end up in the middle. so i've been looking up their websites and reading to see if i can make up my mind.

i'm still stuck, lol. take the abortion stand. (not trying to cause an evil debat here, lol) i guess i'm pro-choice, but with only in certain circumstances. i don't think its right for someone to have an abortion just because they don't want the baby. thats wrong; if you were responsible enought to...er..do the deed, then your responsible enough to take the responsibility of raising a child. I do believe that the option should be there if for instance, a rape or if there is a life-threatening issue with the baby. i guess McCain wants to make the decision up the individual states. which has me thinking that if someone wants to have one and their state doesn't allow it, then they'll just jump state lines and do it somewhere else? that doesn't seem smart. and i'm not sure where Obama stands.
and then there is Iraq. oh boy. As a wife of a former soldier, who went to Iraq in '03 and is now suffering with PTSD and a couple close calls while there, i think we need to get the &^%$%^ out. But I don't know if doing it quickly, without making sure Iraq can help themselves is wise. but on the other hand who the heck cares, our soldiers are dying. So that too is a touchy subject.
And i'm all for the 'green' policies. we need to find alternate resources. McCain and Obama have good policies for that. so, again, in the middle.

After reviewing though, overall i think i lean more towards McCain.

but i'm not sure, lol

anyone else stuck in the middle with me?
 
I am in between myself and admit this reluctantly because some poeple feel REALLY strongly about politics. I am NOT one of those people. Og course I CARE, but I am not going to fight with anyone about it. I am still reading up on the facts and just trying to do my best to educate myself.
 
Story of my life Corey. Which is why I've held off on trying to research them, because I know I'm just gonna get stuck.

Same thing happened in the last election (despite the fact that I hated Kerry with every fiber of my being, I agreed with him on MANY more issues than I did with Bush, but, not the ones that counted, so I voted for Bush).

Iraq is my main issue, with energy solutions/abortion/gay marriage running close behind. But I'm not going to get into my beliefs. I just wanted to let you know you're DEFINITELY not the only one that feels this way, lol.
 
I was 52% Obama and 48% McCain. I don't like Obama, so I figure any vote for McCain is against Obama so that's how I'll be voting.
 
For me the major issue is trust...who do I trust to lead this country, protect us and our families and handle the energy crisis. To me all the other issues - abortion, taxes etc...those are always going to be issues...I want a president I can trust. I think one of the candidates is trustworthy..one is not.
 
This is something I"m very passionate about so it takes a lot of restraint not to step on a soap box. I would say just please do the research and look at the voting records. Try to look back beyond the last month or two for quotes and positions on this and that thing, you'd be surprised what the media sweeps under the rug. McCain is not perfect but I would rather be executed via firing squad than vote for Obama and that's about as to the point and kind as I can be about it without going into specific issues and details.

Sometimes you just gotta stand for the truth regardless of the consequences, KWIM? Obama has the most liberal and disgusting policy on abortion you will ever find in any United States senator or congressmen. Regardless of what the bobble heads or media want to say, the fact is you can look at all versions of the bills that are free and available to the public and clearly see that the federal and state version state the same thing, actually protect Roe v. Wade and still he refuses to give medical care to infants born alive outside of their mother's wombs. I'm talking children at 7,8,9 months who are VIABLE and happen to survive. You've got to be one sick twisted heartless individual to refuse to try and save the life in that instant and yes I mean every word of that. I can't imagine a human with a heart that black and I am willing to bed that 99% of people here could agree with that (if not then what have we as a culture become?) Those babies are strangled, suffocated, and tossed to the side to die (because the abortionist was paid to get rid of the "problem", not save it) -and he thinks that we don't need a law to stop that.
I am passionate about it because I have seen personally what it can do to a human being and how it destroys families and friends. I felt alone for most of my childhood and when I was 11 found out why. I should have had a brother but that was not convenient for my mother at the time (when I was 10 this happened). I can't explain to you what its like to be the sibling that was chosen to live. I can't tell you how heart wrenching it was to see my father spiral into a depression that to this day he struggles with. You don't know what a bitter and angry individual my mother is and how it breaks my heart that she is incapable of holding my daughter's hand- she holds her arm instead. She cannot connect emotionally to any person or any thing and yes she will tell you straight up that it is because of what she did. And I as a child had to sit back and take it all in and deal with it. This may get deleted or it may get me in trouble- I don't know. This is the first time I've spoken publicly about this. My point is I want you to know a little about this life long struggle of mine and how I wonder about my brother every day and why I am so passionate about this. Why I even bothered to say a word when I could have kept my mouth shut and made things easier on myself. I am a staunch conservative but I do have a heart and I do care deeply about people. ALL people. Gosh I hate election years they are so hard. Blah blah, this always makes me cry talking about it so I need to go and then shut up for a couple days (hugs)

I can NOT relate to being anywhere near the middle, lol, although I am a bit jealous. It is your vote that will decide this election!! I admire you for doing the hard part and doing the research.

If you haven't checked out FactCheck.org, it is a pretty good resource for trudging through the muck. I would also suggest that you study the positions of the VP candidates (if you haven't already). Although the election is between the top two, the office VP in our country has become a powerful position, and these candidates, if elected, will play a role in shaping our policies.

Personally, I am so excited about this election. We have the opportunity to elect a great leader who will be able to bring our country together and get us back on track.

And Amy, I agree that life circumstances can definitely shape our opinions on the issues. (((hugs))) I am sorry for your experience, and my hope for your family is peace and forgiveness. I know it is hard to speak up, as I feel just as passionate as you do about this issue (although I completely disagree).
 
Which ever way this election goes, I think it'll be good. The one thing I find strange is that I like both VP candiates better than the ones running for president. LOL!

I think John McCain is an awesome person, and Sarah Palin is my Governer, but there are things about Obama I like too, he's an amazing speaker, and when everything started last year Joe Biden was my favorite of the dems. I am a total swing voter.

Man, I wish Mike Huckabee was up there, then I wouldn't have any problems. LOL!
 
Ashleigh, that is very well put!

The one thing I will say is, if you listen to enough people you will certainly hear valid arguments and counteragruments to every political policy. Sometimes politicians vote for or against something for completely different reasons than what may be on the surface. For example, Obama says that he voted against that bill because he disagreed with the technical laungage and thought it might interfere with a woman's right to choose (not with the intent of the bill itself to provide care to the fetus/newborn) and because doctors are already required to provide life-saving treatment to any fetus born living. An argument could be made that the "real" intent of the bill in the first place was to minimize choice and really may not have had anything to do with fetal care. For me, abortion doesn't play a large part in my political views, but I know many people are quite passionate about it.
 
I think what you are considered is really an indapendant. I am a registered Republican but after going over some key points of what I beleive hubby reminded me that I was a true indapendant.

I am on the pro-choice stance which isn't really republican. But my key issue with Obama is the raising of taxes. Yes he is only raising taxes to those who make more then 250k a year. That means he is taxing the companies thus my 2.5% raise last year will tuen into no raise or very little. That gallon of milk you already pay 4.50 for will be much more if Obama taxes these companies.

Businesses aren't stupid, they aren't going to just pay the tax out of their profit. Theya re going to charge you the tax in what you purchase from them.

Just a little insight.

I am voting for McCain and Palin becuase I feel that McCain will look out for the best interest of you and I as well as our Country in these times. Obama wants to disarm america which scares the crap out of me.
 
wow. i'm really impressed with everyone's views and opinions! you guys have done way more research than i have. and i feel like a slacker for never haveing voted. you'd think that considering how much patriotism i have that i would be an avid voter. i think thats going to change. i really want to vote this year. we need a change to help us get back on track. thank you for inspiring me.

i really wish i wasn't so 'in the middle.' i think it'd be easier. Obama is a great speaker, but a tiny part of me says not to trust him. He has to be more than just a great speaker. I really like McCain and have more trust for him. Regardless of research, i think i should listen to my gut. But i am going to do more reading on both cadidates and their running mates.

That's how I feel...I DO NOT like Obama at all!!! And if he thinks he's going to disarm my household he has another thing coming!!!
 
I always come out in the middle of those things. but I'm not a swing voter. I firmly believe that a viable 3rd party is the only way we will get real change, so I vote for Perot, and for Nader and Ron Paul back in 1988. Had Ron Paul been chosen by the Republicans this time I might have broken a life long 3rd party streak & voted for him because he's a smaller government proponent & I'm all for that. There are too many thing that I don't agree with about McCain and Obama, which is why I alwasy end up in the middle, so I am voting for Bob Barr.
 
I feel that all americans should take the time to learn the issues and base their decision on what means the most to them. I don't recommend voting based on color or sex.

But unfortunately there is a lot of people voting this way and you can't do anything about it.

LOL Totally agree with you on all points! Especially the firing squad comment heheh.

So sorry to hear what you have had to deal with Amy! So so sad! I don't see how anyone who has had a baby can support abortion- feeling that little human life moving inside, hearing and seeing that little heart beat during an ultrasound. From the very first little heart beat, that is a human life. Just because it is growing inside the mother and not out side don't make it less of a human. If its not convenient to have a child, put it up for adoption- there are soo many couples just waiting for a child to love.

He is ONLY a great speaker if he has a teleprompter... have you seen him without one or when it isn't working? He is stuttering and falling all over himself. Now Sarah Palin is a great speaker! Her teleprompter malfunctioned at the convention and she finished beautifully.
 
I love this thread. Normally they eventually get ugly, but people have shown real maturity in it.

For me, knowing exactly where the candidate stands is important. I dont like hearing one speech from a candidate only to hear things in another speech that are contrary. I also look at voting history of the candidate. Are they constant? Do they vote one way and verbally talk another? I want to know that if I vote for them that I know their policies wont change.

The hard part for me is that my vote doesnt count. My state will be blue come election day. It always is.

Ugh, I feel the same way. Not necessarily that my state will be blue, but that my vote won't count. In the elections MD had last year, the winning candidate (for Governor) won 1 county. The city of Baltimore. The ENTIRE rest of the state voted for the other guy, and he still lost. Depressing.

Oh my gosh!! Thats amazing that one city can change decide the vote. It would be nearly pointless to compaign anywhere but there. Thats how my state is. The presidential candidates come to us once, MAYBE twice if we are lucky.

Same here, Kim, but the other way. We're always a red state, always. I still vote though, even though it doesn't matter.
