Pointers on good tutorials or where to start? Photoshop is giving me trouble and so I've not been able to scrap this week as I wanted. Argh... anyway, I was trying to sidetrack myself and thought I'd check out a new hobby.

TIA!

I have never been able to get the hang of knitting although I love some of the stuff I see being made. I can crochet anything but knitting to me has a much neater appearance compared to crocheting. Anyhow I know that is not really helpful LOL just wanted to say good luck in learning. Hope it comes easier to you then it did me :)

oh, knitting is fun! my second hobby is knitting socks :-) but as german I'm not really helpfull

You Tube has some great videos on the different stitches and various ways to hold your hands & things like cast on. I was apparently taught the Continental way as a child & while trying to relearn 30 years later had American instructions & got so confused until I found some videos showing me how each was done & figured out my problem

The places previously mentioned are great places online, but if you run into trouble, I would check out the nearest Michael's or Hobby Lobby - they sometimes have classes if you find you are having trouble interpreting the videos and need something more hands on (I'm a hands-on girl).
Only negative thing about Ravelry (for all of its goodness) is you usually have to wait a day or two from when you request to join until they let you in. Once in, though, it is a fab site and you should try looking in the forums for other beginners or other people around Round Rock area - I know there's a UT - Austin group, though we don't have much of activity on that forum (mostly looking for the right burnt orange color yarn or talking about the latest football game).
You might also try your closest yarn shop - some of them are eager to teach new "addicts", either one-on-one or in an intro group class; if they aren't, there might be a customer who will be happy to teach you. There's Needlarts of Georgetown in Georgetown itself, and Yarnbow, Gauge Knits and Hill Country Weavers all in Austin (and I think Hill Country Weavers has been around for quite some time). I don't know how close those are for you though.
Good Luck!
