Its really easy! Just seperate each letter, trim excess space, and then go to edit>create brush (or it says something to that effect)
 
Vanessa, it's also the same way (in case ya don't know) how you make a pattern out of say one of your papers - edit>define pattern.

I use to not like to have my alphas in a brush, but I have recently realized that it's much faster for me to use them as a brush.
 
I think it needs to be black/grey also... white won't show up and colors might not get you an accurate ABR ;)
 
The brush will be transparent depending on how close it gets to white. Black = opaque, White = transparent. So if you have a color that translates to 50% gray in grayscale, the brush will be 50% transparent.
