Anyone familiar with London?

My Swiftie maniac wants to go to the London shows next month... as her first trip abroad... ALONE.

Is this an ok idea? She has the financial means, is smart and super responsible, but as a mom, I HATE the idea of her going to an unfamiliar city by herself across an ocean. It just sets all of my mom alarm bells off like crazy.

I try really hard not to be paranoid or raise kids who are afraid of living (bad things can happen 20 mins from home) and I want them to spread their wings and fly and do everything they want in the world, but this just unsettles me for some reason.

If you live in / near London or have been, do you think she'd be ok? She's 21 and in her last year of uni.

Am I just being an overprotective weirdo? Would love advice and thoughts from any of you who might be more familiar with the city and if solo traveling as a young woman would be ok.

Thanks!

totally she should go! you all have done so much travelling that i'm sure she is more experienced than most adults out there - with technology and phones it will be like she is still right beside you :) It will be so good for her!

I went on my own at 15 to visit my sister in norway so while I did have someone at my end destination I travelled on my own. My stopover was at heathrow. If I of all people can do it pre phone/internet everywhere she'll be totally fine :) maybe she'll meet a london boy and move there :P There will be so so so many young people like her travelling around there that she'll no doubt meet people to be with.

My 21 year old just did "Maymester" for three weeks in Milan. I was sick the moment that I found out about the trip. She traveled alone, but there was someone meeting students at the airport in Italy. I can't imagine her doing it completely alone. Your bells are correct to ring as a mom. But, it will be fine and she will have so much fun. Unfortunately, you won't have fun worrying about her while she is gone. I didn't breathe for three weeks. :D

I just came back from London. While there it struck me as a very easy first trip abroad destination. The metro system is super easy to navigate and Taylor Swift was playing while we were there, they had signs all over about which trains to take if you were going to her concert. So even easier for your daughter. I think it's a great chance for her.

I think she should be fine so long as she picks a well known hotel in a safe place (avoiding shody, red light district, etc.). It's not hard to go around London, as Mari said, the tube and the buses are everywhere. :)
