Anyone familiar with iMovie?

Anyone here familiar with iMovie? I have it on my laptop but don't ever use it. One of the cheer moms from my daughter's team is trying to convert a PowerPoint file to an iMovie file for our end-of-year banquet on Thursday and apparently can't figure it out.

I think iMovie is a video editing program - makes movies. I think you have to upload the pp pics (as jpgs or similar) to iMovie then set how long you want each to stay up on the screen. Set the fade between each photo etc. And can add music. But as far as I know it's not a file type to covert to.
