Anyone else dreaming of an iMac??

Well, I've been drooling over the new iMac since it was released... I soooo want one!! Then I went in and took a tour of one, and I'm totally sold. Pity it's not in the budget right now, but a girl can dream right?? :p

Then, last night I saw an ad down at the shops, and someone is selling their 4 month old iMac for around $800 less than it is in the store... I've never bought anything like that second hand, and I'm a bit scared of buying someone else's problem, you know? But I'm so very tempted!! :D

So, does anyone here use one?? And can you tell me why I NEED to buy it? LOL - not like I need any more excuses to!

I have two iMacs. One was one that came out in late August 2007. I have to tell you - I LOVE my iMac!! I was worried at first, but it has been so easy to get used to and now I can honestly say - I will NEVER go back to PC again.

Why you need to buy? Well, let's see - it's more efficient than PC IMO. When I was on PC, I was always getting stupid messages that the dll file was missing, or some other this or that file was missing.

My PC always crashed too and I had a top of the line one with lots of RAM. With my Mac, I haven't had one crash and we got our first one in December 2006.

Macs are also not loaded with stuff running in the background that will cause you to run slower. What you open is what you run.

And, I've been told, that Mac is really the best system to use if you're a graphic artist/designer etc.

It's just a durable, stable system that I have come to love.

Stop it Paula, you are selling me on one! LOL!

I plan to make the switch within the next year. I've also heard that Mac's are all graphic designers use and feel like that's what I should be working on to do what I do.

My biggest fear is the learning curve. I know that some programs are different, like PS, and I don't have the time to be down to learn.

The only real difference that I've noticed is the shortcuts. For example, on Mac, to group things together we use command > option > G.

Oh man, I am so sold on it already - you're not making it any easier to resist the temptation Paula - LOL! :D

I was talking to a graphic designer who uses one, and she said that she can open like 40 psds at once and it doesn't slow down!! If I did that on my PC, I'd be able to go to the shops, clean the house, cook dinner, etc, and they still wouldn't have loaded!

My only issue is that I'd have to get CS3 for the Mac, and I'm not sure... you know how it's cheaper to just upgrade? I'm not sure if you can upgrade from the Windows version to the Mac version, or would I have to buy the full priced version for Mac? That's the only thing that's turning me off at the moment

you can but it's a crazy process...you have to call adobe, pay to upgrade, they send you the windows version, then call them again when you receive it, they will disable the key for it and send you the mac version.

I saw this on another forum..if I can find the link to it I'll PM u

No, but I'm dreaming of a MacBook Pro!!!

I think the iMacs are great too and I'm sure you will love it! Have you looked at the Apple store refurbished computers? That's also another option and they come with a warranty!

LOVE my Mac!!!!!!!

Me too, the Macbook Pro! I am drooling over it, but seeing how I just beat up my van, and had to buy a new one, I'm not asking DH for anything right now LOL!

Jac, I think we should take the plunge at the same time, so we can help each other out, just give me a couple of months LOL!

I have an imac.. I learned mac first when i worked at a print shop and then decided to go pc because of it being cheaper. Well I decided to just change everything over last year and I tell you - even though it cost me a bit more than I would have liked I have never been happier. I LOVEEEE my mac. Will never go back to a pc ever again.

When I get my Mac, I'm planning on just getting an education version of CS3, it's the same price as the upgrade, I think...and then I can keep CS2 on my PC.

Yah, my CS2 is the education version, I got the premium version for only $560 AUD so I don't know if that stuffs up the whole upgrade thing too... I wish I was still a student - maybe I should enrol in something - LOL! :D

I too, am dreaming of an imac! I already have an older one (and an ibook), but mine is going on 6 years old. There is nothing really wrong with mine, I just want something bigger and faster. lol

I LOVE macs - I have been using them since high school. They are fast, reliable, and fun. Yes, the cost is more, but in the 6 years that I have owned my $1500 imac, I have only spent $100 to upgrade the RAM and $150 on EHD, and it still runs like new. I am sure I would have had to buy a whole new system (or two) if I had PCs.

Good luck with your decision!!

Do you have CS3 now? If so, you can call Adobe and and they'll give you a license for Mac.

If you have CS2, you could call Adobe and tell them that you are switching over the Mac and they'll give you a serial code for Mac and then you download that version from the Adobe downloads section. Then you can just buy the upgrade for Mac. I got the education version of CS3 for $299 USD.

Awesome Paula! :D That's just what I needed to hear - LOL! I'm going to phone Adobe in Australia just so I can check with them... but if it's that easy, then yay!! :D

Thanks for the info Paula! I appreciate it too because this was one of my biggest worries about switching over.

I'm dreaming alright! Maybe someday.... but I just got a new DSLR so no money in the near future for one. I am curious though which applications does everyone with Mac's have and use the most?

If they come out with a pink one maybe! I'm dreaming of a little pink dell laptop! LOL! I do have to say that the little air commercial jingle gets me humming every time! ;)
