Any Mozy users?

I've eaten up almost all of the storage space on my relatively new Mac. I have two EHDs, but I use them for back-up now because I'm afraid to lose my photo and scrap files if I just have one copy.

Does anyone use Mozy as a backup service? It seems like a good idea, but I've read that files that don't get changed in 30 days are deleted from their server. That seems odd to me, but I figured I'd see what actual users might know... $4.95 a month seems like cheap peace of mind to me.

Once I get an online back-up going, I should be able to keep my scrap stuff just on my EHD so that my computer runs a bit better...

ETA: Will Mozy back up from an EHD?

Mozy is a "backup" service, not an "archive" service. So it will backup the stuff that is currently on your computer, but it doesn't keep stuff that you delete.

It doesn't delete unchanged stuff after 30 days, it gets rid of the stuff that you deleted yourself after 30 days. (So, if you accidently delete a file, you have 30 days to recover it). But, if you still have files on you computer (changed or unchanged), it'll keep them backed up.

It will back up an EHD, but you'll need to have the EHD on every time you backup or, again, it will see all those files as "deleted" and you'll have to re-back them up (I learned this the hard way).

Still, once you get used to how it works, it's a great service. You are right that the peace of mind is well worth it!

Hope that helps!

Yep! What she said. :D

I've used it for 2 years and love it! I back up both my internal and extral HDs with it. I just turn off automatic back-ups so that I can be sure it will always run while my EHD is connected. If I go more than 7 days without a backup, it pops up a little reminder. So this totally works for me. :)

I've used it for almost a year and haven't had any trouble. In fact, I was able to recover some pictures last month that I accidentally deleted off my hard drive.
