Another travel question...toiletries

What do you use to carry all of your toiletries in? A seperate bag from your luggage? Something that will fit inside your luggage? I used to have a seperate bag that I would carry over my shoulder to fit all of my stuff in. It was big enough to fit full size shampoo, conditioner, shave gel, make up bag, toothbrusth/toothpaste, hairspray, meds, hairdryer, flatiron...but its ruined so I need to find something else. I will be taking small travel size stuff of everthing to Europe, leaving my hair dryer at home. Will probably put my makeup in my purse with me. I just dont know what to carry the rest of the stuff in. Any suggestions?

I always put my toiletries (except for my medications) in my luggage. I have a nifty little bag from Eagle Creek. It's enough to keep track of a carry-on with stuff to do and my kid without having other things that I don't really need right there at the seat with me.

I use smaller travel sizes when possible and always put in a zip lock. I really need to get new luggage though. Usually, my hubby and I share a big bag, but he's so messy that I'm seriously considering getting two smaller separate bags so I don't have to get refolding my clothes.

I always use a Freedom bag type thing. It has a bunch of pockets and loops and it holds all but the biggest toiletries that I use. I pack in checked luggage.

Well, when I was traveling back and forth to Ireland, because the fiance was still living there, I had an already pre-packed little bag, that went into my normal suitcase.

If you wanna do that two suggestions:
1) Do NOT put toiletries into your suitcase in a "normal" small bag. The suitcases do get thrown around by the airport staff and if something breaks you want the mess contained in a toiletry bag with those plastic covers inside. Trust me, once put sunblocker into the suitcase last minute. Not pretty!
2) There are those fold/roll-up bags with a hook to hang up in the hotel bathroom. Super practical! I've been to hotels with very limited space for toiletries and I hate rummaging through a big bag searching for my stuff. Something like this.

If you want to bring an extra bag, remember that some inner European airlines restrict not only the total luggage weight, but also the number of bags. Depending on how many bags you're already bringing you may have to pay extra. I'd check that beforehand. And you won't be able to bring in onto the plane as handluggage, because of the liquid restrictions.

I used to have a really cool separate bag, but since the airlines are charging for each piece of luggage... I have gone back to packing them in a ziploc bags and that into a pack cube in the luggage... http://shop.eaglecreek.com/packing-cubes/l/212 I, too, have had things explode or freeze on flights.

Off topic - I love packing cubes for everything in luggage- especially on big trips!

I would definitely put them in ziplock bags inside your checked luggage. Full-sized ones will add quite a bit to your total weight. So, if you think the travel-sized bottles will be enough, I'd do that.

I use travel-sized toiletries and put them in a shaving kit type bag within my luggage. If I'm concerned about them leaking which can happen in baggage handling, I will put them in zip locks within that bag. I put medications in my purse in case my bags are misplaced. European outlets are different than ours, so it's good your leaving your hair dryer since it's fairly likely it wouldn't be compatible. Good luck packing!
