Another question, photoshop related

How do you stop an image from resizing automatically when you pull into photoshop and place it directly on the canvas?

I can't remember how I did it on the desktop, and I can't seem to come up with the right wording when I'm searching.

Change it from a smart object in the preference menu? Only way I know
