Another organization question . . .

I've been a deleting fool in ACDSee today and I've come up with a question. I've got a few kits that were freebies, etc., that I don't really like but that have a few elements that I'd like to keep. Do you make a separate file to put those in, leave them loose, or what? I hate to leave the whole folder for one or two elements but I'm not sure how to keep all the credit info. if I don't.

So what do you do? :blink:
 
I don't use ACDSee but when I have something like that I just move the elements I like from the kit to the corresponding file in my elements folder and then delete the rest of the kit. Like if the kit had 2 papers and a staple and a frame and I like the staple and frame but not the papers..I move the staple to my "staple" folder and the frame to my "frames" folder then delete the papers.
 
I keep all of my kits separate, but I also have a general elements folder that I put things that are pretty "general use". Things like metal brads, staple, stitches, frames, etc. Thats where I put the few things I like from freebie kits. Then I delete the rest of it.

No point in keeping a whole kit just for a few little elements.
 
I don't use ACDSee so I do have separate files for types of elements. Anytime I'm separating something from its kit I name it ElementType_KitName_Designer.
 
I would rename the element with designer's and kit's names and put it into a "misc elements" folder. That way when you "find" this element through ACDSee, you will still be able to remember the credits.
 
My stuff is sorted by designer, so I just keep the folder. But renaming it with the designers name is brilliant. Y'all rock.
 
i'd keep the folder they were in b/c that's how I organize my stuff. to be honest though, if I got down to just 1 or 2 things in a folder, I would try to convince myself to delete the whole thing.

however, I think I may be liking the idea of a bits n pieces elements folder . . .

Also in ACDSee, I put the designer's name in the author's field and the kit name in the caption field.
 
I have a folder for "iffies" things I am not sure about keeping.
I have found that I like to put orphan elements in alone in a folder for the type of element. I have freebies that have the coolest ribbon but I dont like anything else so I keep only that ribbon labeled with the designer name if possible. Having it loose in the folder, keeps it where I can see it more-and use it more.
