Hi girls! I need some suggestions for a good camera thats not too expensive. I'm not looking for a DSLR - way out of my price range & know-how, lol.

Right now, we have a Fuji Finepix, but I HATE it. I can't get good pics from it at all. They look good from the back, but when I open them up in Photoshop, I can see that they are all grainy & full of noise. I can't get nice indoor shots with it on the natural light mode, and if I use the flash it just blows out all the color. Hard to believe, but the photo quality is getting worse as time goes on. I've heard that it could be the memory card is losing quality - not sure if thats true?

Anyways, DH and I are so unhappy with our camera. We are looking for another one that looks kind of like a DSLR, but not, know what I mean?

This is the one we currently have:

I like the style of it, that its big enough to hold onto, but not too heavy. Does anyone have a suggestion for an awesome camera, that takes clear pics both indoor & outdoor (without horrible noise), and is $500 or less? We are looking at Canon's - we've been super impressed by our FIL's photos that he got from his Canon Powershot. We compared - he took a pic, then we took one of the same thing, and his were ALWAYS clear & crisp, and ours were awful. We do NOT want a Fuji - we've had 2 now, and have been disappointed in both.

Suggestions??

I always say you can't go wrong with Nikon or Canon... my personal preference is Canon for point & shoot and well I'm a Nikon girl for dSLR...

IMO to get the absolute best though you should go dSLR... you can find used ones for in your budget... and even in AUTO or Program mode you get much better photos than with a P&S.

I have a Canon Powershot S5 IS that I have got good shots on ... but indoor are still usually underexposed and dark ... if the kids are really moving and I have it on the "sports" setting the ISO goes up and they get grainy.

My outside shots are always great and the super zoom is fantastic.

BTW - I just bought a used dslr with a lens and extra batteries for under $500. You can find them in your price range, it just won't be the brand new model.

I have a Canon Powerhot SX200IS, and I love it. It has a 12x optical zoom, and the pictures are always nice and clear (or as clear as they're ever going to be when I'm taking pictures of kids who never stop moving!) There may be other Canons that are closer to DSLRs, but this one is small enough to easily go in my bag or coat pocket (a must for me). I think it was about $350. I sometimes have issues with the flash blowing everything out, but most of my flash photos are fine.

My sister got the Nikon L100 for Christmas, and she loves it. It's not a pocket point and shoot, but it's def not a DSLR either. I messed with it a bit at a concert this weekend, and it took some pretty impressive shots under pretty miserable conditions. I'm a pretty loyal Nikon girl, so I can't really speak on anything else, lol.

Here's a pic I stole from her FB page. We were NOT close to the stage (but were on the floor), and this is fully zoomed in.

Here's a regular situation sort of photo. Unedited, she doesn't do photoshop or anything, so these are all SOOC.

I had two cameras from Canon's G-series - a G6 and a G9 - before jumping to a Rebel and I LOVED them both. Great pictures, easy to use and small enough to carry around. They have a lot of manual features on them as well so if you think that's something you might be interested in eventually you can get your feet wet with them. :)
