And now I have not one but TWO kids in glasses!

We found out last week that my 4 year old needs glasses and eye patching. Just like his older sister did when she was his age. Boo to that, but at least we caught it early and we can make sure he preserves his best vision possible.

Plus he looks super cute in his glasses. :) This is him in the mall food court immediately after picking up his glasses:

Any other parents of kids with glasses want to empathize about the cost of glasses though? ;) $$$$$

What a cutie! My two oldest were both in glasses pretty young but my DH has decent vision insurance so it usually covered the cost of their glasses and we just had to pay a $25 copay. I bet they're expensive now, though.

Very cute! And as a fellow mom of 2 in glasses, I empathize about the cost. But neither of the boys' glasses hold a candle to how much I have to pay for mine (strong prescription, so I have to get the expensive lenses or get that lovely Coke bottle effect).

Super cute! I've got 2 in glasses now as well, plus DH.

Try http://www.zennioptical.com/ Cooper broke a pair that he'd only had for a month, so I ordered him a back-up for $20 including shipping from Zenni. I just ordered DH a new pair of prescription sunglasses from there last week as well.

aww he does look so cute in glasses! Gemma is going to need them when she's older, but we're patching for now to keep her sight the best we can. I feel you!

He looks SO CUTE in his glasses!

We had to get DS's eyes tested extra when he was 4 but turned he didn't need glasses. I was super relieved! The cost isn't very high for kid's here though, it's tax funded for kids.

This - I've carried vision insurance for myself and DD for years now. We both wear contacts and glasses. I need exams every year and regular medical would only cover one every 2 years so it is well worth the monthly fee of $12.

So cute!

Do kids over there not get them free? We do over here for under 16's. All the lenses are free and some frames, you can pay extra for designer frames but even then they are only about £30, or that's the most we've paid and that was for 2 pairs!

Thanks, ladies! I think he looks pretty cute too. :)

Where I'm from, kids' vision exams are free yearly and to treat conditions - the dr. visits are covered by the provincial health care plan. The glasses are covered by my and my husband's supplementary health insurance through our employers'. But there's a ceiling to the costs that can be claimed and at about $400 dollars a pair, we hit the max pretty quick in the past with our daughter. She had her prescription change annually and needed 2 pairs of regular glasses and 1 pair of sunglasses at a time.

(Both kids have strong prescriptions so we buy pricey lenses to keep them thinner. My daughter is +8.00 in both eyes and my son is +6.00 in one eye and +1.00 in the other.)

The cost of patching is not covered at all. I just bought 150 disposable patches for $100. Eek. But, he's a "peeker" so we can't use the pirate style reusable patch.

But, c'est la vie. I'm just glad we caught his vision problem early enough to be corrected.

OMG I ran into this problem too. My daughter is allergic to latex though, so all sticky things like bandaids and disposable eye patches give her a rash. I've had to make her felt and elastic patches. I'm glad you guy caught it early too!
