my kids are eating toast and fending for themselves for dinner (even DH) because after 3 days of telling them to clean the kitchen and downstairs, they refuse...so I AM REFUSING to cook :) Sam made some for Peyton, but the rest of them are on their own!!!! We are PAYING her to not only watch them, but to help with the house and she only does it every now and then, so pretty much I am setting my foot down....maybe I should be more of an adult about it, but I don't want to be and so that is how it is going down tonight LMAO!!!!:D

Well I think you ARE being an adult about it. Choice and consequence. You can't keep asking them to clean up, then have no consequences when they refuse. This is them learning a lesson. This is them being prepared for real life. Personally I wouldn't have waited so long. Haha. Just make sure they clean up their mess from tonights dinner as well. I'd go on strike for a couple of days if I were you. Show them you're really serious.

P.S. If you're paying her for certain jobs and she doesn't do them, then pay her less those weeks. She'll soon learn. If she thinks there's no consequence to only doing half the job, then you're teaching her that it's OK to do that.

P.P.S. I have no problem being a tough mum. Ask my kids. :D

Makes sense to me! If you've been asking and they're not listening, you need to get their attention somehow. And it's not like you're refusing them food, just letting them know that if they won't work, neither will you.

Sounds like a good idea! I like Jacinda's idea of paying less for less work too!

the truly sad part is if the 3 oldest banned together (sometimes it is tough to get Peyton to focus with his Asperger's and ADHD) it would take them less than 30 mins to get it all done!!!

"Teach a child in the way that it should go..." or so the scripture says. It's never too late to teach them to do things the way you want them done. You can do it Angie.

hahahahahaha...my DH came in the kitchen and said "ok I am done with it.....we are gonna get this done" and went in search of all children and in less than 45 mins we had it pretty much clean enough to have company :) don't get me wrong, it ain't spotless, but it is totally livable :)

My mom used to go on "strike" from my one brother who always gave her trouble about chores. When he would get lazy about his responsibilities, she would stop doing his laundry and cooking for him, etc.

Nothing wrong with that at all, Angie. I'm glad they finally got it together. :)

yeah and my hubby said " she what can happen when I motivate this family"...ok mister, then motivate them MORE FREAKING OFTEN!!!!!:D

Haha I'm a huge fan of mean momma. My kids are 2 and 4 and I frequently take all of their toys away when they consistently aren't picking up. They have to earn them back or they don't get them back. It keeps things a lot nicer for awhile.

for years my mum would do my sister's and my laundry and it was our job to fold it and put it away. when we got lazy and wouldn't do it, she finally just made us do our laundry ourselves. ;) we complained for a bit but it got easier as time went on
