A suggestion for SSD Designers

Just wanted to mention some of the zip files of downloads are a little on the large size for dial up users - I have just had one kit that is nearly 165MB in one zip file (I only have high speed for about 2 weeks of each month then drop down to dial up). I'd really appreciate if you could split your downloads up a bit more - I don't mind downloading 2 or 3 smaller zip files of say 50MB each rather than one big zip file

Generally this is why the zips are divided into alpha, paper and elements. But maybe the designer(s) in question accidentally uploaded the wrong one (some like to just have 1 file for their CT's to download instead of 3).

I totally feel your pain though...I was on dialup until last February...it was PAINFUL trying to download sometimes.

I downloaded one today that was 193 mb. I have downloaded some that are pretty large. That is a good suggestion.

I will always make sure to do that from now on for customers! I know I have a couple that I had put in full zips. I'm sorry if that has caused a problem for anyone :)

Actually, it's no problem for me because I'm on satellite, but I can see where it can be for the dial up folks.

All I will do for this kit is go to somewhere with higher speed internet and download my purchases then

Unfortunately, I don't think everyone will ever pleased, lol. I prefer having everything in one zip (but I'm on cable, so speed isn't an issue), but I can certainly empathize with those on dial-up.

For me I'm fine if I get to download the kit between the 26th of a month and about the 7th or so of the next month

I have been on both sides of the fence ... I have had SLOW dsl and now I have fast cable. What I have found at some stores is that they have an "All In One" download and then the broke down files. I know that probably takes up too much time to upload and package everything on the designer end, but it sure is nice :)

It takes up twice the disk space on the site too, though, and that can be a problem.

i think in general it is better to have seperated zips, in consideration of those who don't have a fast connection. those of us who do have a fast connection can click our pointer a couple extra times to download.

That's how I feel about it too. It'll take the same amount of time to download 2-3 zips as 1 zip, we'll just have to click a couple extra times. No biggie in the grand scheme of life. It just makes it a little bit easier on those without the luxury of a high speed connection! :)

I like 2-3 smaller zips because I'm on wireless, and my router is famous for crapping out often. Then I have to restart, and get links reset occasionally because of it. Super annoying, and I don't mind clicking an extra time or two.

SOunds like a great suggestion to me.... I have high speed- but I have to pick up the signal on my laptop thru my wireless router. If my desktop is being used, I can forget about trying to download anything....

When I got my Sweet Rewards, I bought a bunch of stuff, only Nick was on the desktop- all of my downloads had corrupt files in them because we were both on the internet.... and they took forever to download! Once he got off, though, and I was the only one on the network, some weren't much faster because they were large files....

Altough, I've got an opionion on the small alpha files! It drives me nuts to download a 6 mb file, and unzip it, organize it, etc.... when it could've just been added into the 30 mb elements zip.... kwim?

On this topic, there's no right answer, however, since there's so many different type of internet connections available.

On my own personal site, I don't go over 50mb. files, and I've only had 1 customer who had trouble with downloading a 37mb file.... I think most shops try to stay below or right at 50mb a file....

In the case of ScrapKitchen's All about me kit - there was one zip file of 165MB and inside of that was 4 smaller folders

I have mixed feelings about this!!! I have little to no patience...so downloading 3 zips for alpha, elements and paper is torture! But I also understand those who don't have the faster connections...I would probably tear my hair out....

For those of you who HATE downloading one at a time, there's a free program called "Down Them All" (Google it!), and it'll download all the files at once. You just right click, hit Down them All (after its installed), choose your folder and it does the rest. I LOVE it!
