Ok, so after 6 1/2 years of marriage, I'm finally facing my first deployment... DH leaves early Saturday morning and will be gone almost 5 months. I'm a very practical girl and have lots of keep me distracted while he's gone (including a very busy 19-month-old), but it's just now starting to sink in how long 5 months is....

Anyway, already prayed over it, but just needed to vent. God is good. He'll see us through.

If you need anything in the next 34 days Amy, let me know.

I'm sure everything will be ok. I think god I never had to do a deployment.

Ok, so totally off topic, but I so chuckled last Saturday.

For everyone else, I was out yard-saling (is that even a word???) with my mom. And I stopped at a sale as I saw a little kid's chair. Got out of the car and walked over and recognized Cooper. So, out of our entire base, I had stumbled upon Vanessa's house. How small world is that? :p DS loves the chair BTW, bought some cute farm animal fabric to recover it. (DH's not crazy about Cinderella...)

Isn't it a small world. LOL! I was telling my friend Amber, (amber76), she's also stationed here about it and I told her how funny it was since I didn't say anything about having a yard sale.

Glad he likes the chair.

Hugs girl! Just know that it will get bad for a couple of weeks, then you'll get into your own routine, then for the last month or so everything wrong will happen (car breaks down, kiddos get sick, etc) but you can still make it! You are a strong woman, and you are always more than welcome to come here and vent a little! Deployments are hard. Make your DH take some videos of him reading to your little one. It will help you too just to hear his voice when you need to. And yes...lean on your friends, they will understand!

And LOL about the yard sale! We like to say it is a small Air Force, but I guess its a small digiverse too!

It's hard..believe me I know...we've done two 13 month deployments between Sept 2005 and now.

I know 5 mos sounds like a long time but it could be way worse...break it down into smaller intervals...that's what I do...I take out my calendar and mark down "mini goals" like every 2 weeks or so. It doesn't seem as daunting that way (or at least that's what I tell myself lol)

Anyway, if you need to vent/cry/whine whatever you can pm me anytime...I've been through the entire gamut of emotions a million times over at this point.

ETA: The first day is the worst...the second is easier...just remember you won't always feel the way you did the first day...it gets better. :) and there's always scrap therapy!! ;)

((((hugs))))

That's one thing I remember when I was a child..how SO THERE for each other military families are. Rely on them Amy they will help see you thru :)

We'll be here! Talk to us!

I just want to say from our family to yours "THANK YOU!"...we wouldn't be the great nation that we are without families like yours!

I have an idea...hmmm you said recovering a little kids chair? Might be a good time if finances allow it...to do a few "unsupervised projects" while he's away. giggle giggle

*Hugs* My DH is leaving soon for a year long deployment so 5 months is looking pretty good to me right now. :D The last deployment we did was 4 1/2 months and it actually went by a lot faster than I thought it would. Like Nikki said, it helps to break it down into smaller chunks and to give yourself mini goals/things to look forward to. I actually have a whole list of things I'd like to do while he's gone so I'm hoping that will at least help it not seem so long.

Just know that you're not the only one going through all this so if you need to vent or anything, we're all here for you. :)

{{HUGS}} My brother will be gone for 8 months...he leaves June 21. My niece and nephew are older this deployment (9 & 10), so they are so busy with school and sports. My sil is working part time too, so that makes the time pass quickly. It think when they are younger it is much harder.

While your dh will be out of Alaska...mine will probably be heading up there.

We aren't in the military, but my dh usually ends up working up in Alaska from 3 - 6 months out of the year. If he goes this year, I'm going to come up and visit for a bit though. My salmon and halibut are almost gone!!

Hey Ames ~

I was just gonna say, talk to Nikki about deployments! :)

And, I was wondering if you had ever met Vanessa. How fun!

3rd ~ come back to PC and spend the 5 months here!!! :) You are coming this summer, right?
