4th of July plans?

So is it to early to talk about 4th of July plans? :) I am not sure what we will be doing. Although I am pretty sure we would be able to see fireworks from my daughters house so I may talk to her and see if she wants to maybe have a bbq on the 4th. So what are your plans?
 
we are driving to my mom's house (they live about 3 hours away). Probably will swim some when we get there and then watch fireworks that night. :) the next day we are taking the boys to Legoland in Dallas. they are pretty excited about it!
 
I'm so excited! I very rarely gets holidays off and 4th of July is one of my favorites and this year I have 6 days off! We are gong to the town I lived in as a kid to visit my family. They do it up big there. So we're gonna go to a parade, fireworks, rodeo, demo derby, who knows what else. I'm pretty sure I'll take my son and niece to Brave, too.
 
Mari that sounds awesome!! I wish they did all that here! We do have a couple big celebrations. One in downtown Orlando but unless you get there really early and then save a spot you are not getting any parking. We went there one year and just drove around the lake where they have fireworks. For the most part we didnt really move. The kids turned around and watched the fireworks out the back window. Normally they always wore seatbelts but nobody was really moving so I did not see how it would hurt. Then we started going to a place closer to us but they are just as crowded as the downtown Orlando show. So I figured we could watch the fireworks from a little further away and still have a nice time with family
 
Amber that sounds fun. We have passes to Islands of Adventure and Universal (last yeaar we had Busch Gardens and Sea World). Ive been to the theme parks one time for the fourth of July celebration. It was so hot. The show was so loud and it scared my youngest. I do not do well with extremely large crowds. It makes me really anxious.
 
We aren't doing much since I have to work the day before and the day after. We're taking our vacation time in August this year and going to Boston for a week, so the 4th is low-key this year. If the weather is nice we'll probably head down to Acadia National Park for a day of hiking and then into Bar Harbor for some shopping and ice cream. It is also my birthday and Cheyanne is making me a cheesecake with fresh strawberries on top to have when we get home. :thumbup: I doubt we'll be seeing any fireworks this year because I hate driving into the city to see them and finding someplace to park and then driving home with all the drunk drivers around. Our town had fireworks this past weekend, so we're all set.
 
Unless it's raining, we'll be doing the SAME THING we do every year. We're pretty stuck in tradition when it comes to the 4th. We pack up some kind of fruit salad or watermelon, some kind of dessert, and sodas & water, then grab some KFC on our way to the beach. We head out around 5pm... the beach is about 10 minutes away... then we set up the picnic while the kids play in the sand, eat, clean up, play on the beach some more and wait for the fireworks. The show starts at about 8:30 when it's dark and it's pretty awesome. Huge fireworks from a barge out in the ocean. It's cool to see the fireworks reflected in the ocean and it's nice and cool from the ocean breeze. The 4th is one of my favorite holidays. I just love it! Praying that this awful rainy weather clears up for this year! ;)
 
Brook, if we had a beach with a fireworks show like you do, I think we'd be "stuck" in that tradition, too! It sounds like loads of fun!!

I think we're going to take the boys into DC for the fireworks this year. We went 7 years ago, but the boys were too little to remember. We sat on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and watched the fireworks over the Washington Monument. We had to get there really early. We went with friends, though, and played games and walked around the mall waiting for it to get dark. It was a lot of tun! It's taken us this long to work up the courage to go again, though :)
 
We host a cookout & campout with bonfire & fireworks every year. We're doing it this weekend since July 4 is the middle of the week & no one has any surrounding days off. The county is doing thier fireworks next weekend so we will get to see that one for a change
 
No big plans here. If the weather is good we'll try to get outside during the day, but just for a typical family activity like going to a neighborhood park to hike or use the playground. Sometimes we go out for dinner. No fireworks for us, unfortunately. Two of my kids still get scared of loud noises, and only my youngest could stay up late enough without making us regret it. I can't wait until they're old enough to go see fireworks!

Have a great time! DH and I did that a few times pre-kids and loved it, but we haven't been brave enough to attempt it since. My youngest is 3, so I think it will still be a while before we give it a try with them.
 
One of our neighboring towns is having a big celebration at one of the parks there...I think we'll end up going to that (our town's celebration looks totally lame in comparison). We haven't really done anything the past couple of years so I'm really looking forward to going and watching fireworks and such.
 
We usually keep it pretty low key. It is my favorite holiday but I like things quiet. We grill out during the day and let the kids shoot off their groundworks. They each get to spend $5 to $10 on day time fireworks like smoke bombs and fire crackers. Well, we don't actually LET them do it themselves. We light everything for them but let them choose what goes next, etc. Sparklers are the only things we let the kids handle and I still get nervous because it seems like every year I hear of someone getting burned. Anyway, we sit and eat outside. I usually make up some sort of red/white/blue treats to go with dinner and we all dress in something patriotic. After dinner we go down to the park and listen to the community band playing patriotic music. Then we head over to the ball fields where they shoot off the fireworks. We haul our chairs and blankets up a big hill and sit there with everyone to watch the show. I get my kids glow necklaces and silly things like that since we don't let them do their own fireworks. We usually do a patriotic craft of some sort too. Oh, and I get the kids out in the yard and take lots of pictures, usually involving flags. :)
 
I don't like when the 4th is in the middle of the week because I have to work before and after. And it's not much fun here in AZ when it's so hot. We've spent many 4ths in Joplin and I love it there - even if we've had 2 fireworkelated injuries. :blink:

This year we'll probably just swim and grill here at home. We just saw the fantastic fireworks at Disneyland, so I'm not too anxious to go somewhere here, in the heat, to watch any.
 
I have to work my normal shift and then we have a huge party here at the club which we are attending.. should be a blast.. we'll have bounce houses, face painting, a balloon artist, photo booth, a magic show and carnival games.. and of course, fireworks.
 
We probably won't do anything on the actual 4th, maybe a cookout or something, but we do enjoy Bicycle Days festival in a nearby town. It's not a huge celebration, but we do it every year, since we used to live there. They have a street fair, rides with awesome fair food, lol and then we stay for fireworks. We may go to the parade here in town, we did last year, though, and it was packed - I was seriously amazed by how packed it was - I didn't even realize this town was so big!
 
Not a thing. Andrew's going to be on nights then, for a big implementation project at work, the kids are away until August 9, and the shop where I work will be closed. So yeah--I'll be sitting in our temporary apartment watching television.

We're talking about going to Joplin for the 4th. :) I grew up in AZ and I didn't like the 4th of July as much back then. Once in a while we would go to a display in Phx, Mesa or AJ but more often than not we just sat at home. The heat was too much for my grandma (she raised me) and my brothers. We usually ended up watching fireworks at home on TV. LOL
 
We plan to drive to Atlantic City, NJ on the 4th spend the night and then the following day hang out till evening time and drive to Seaside Heights, NJ spend the night and following day hanging out with all 4 kids in tow... I am planning on some appetizers, watermelon and other stuff so we are not spending alot on food since we'll be paying for a Hotel at both places. We will have 2 coolers one for food and one for drinks.

We haven't done this since like 2002 so It's going to be awesome for the 3 lil one's to see how we spent our 4th while living in NJ.

I have to say all this Thanks to my dh bonus next week... Love that he works so hard for us.... <3
 
Mary that sounds like fun. My husband lived there for many years. He lived in a town called Egg Harbor I think? Most of his family works at casinos in Atlantic City LOL.
 
Well no plans here for the 4th of July...we celebrate the FIRST of July here!! ;) But...no plans for that either. LOL!! Just a low key weekend for us I think! The girls are too little to take to the fireworks and keep them up until 11pm to watch them. We might do a picnic or head to the lake for a day or something.
 
We belong to a hackerspace ... basically a group of "makers" ... people into 3D printing, electronics, modified power wheels racing, CNC machines, anime costume making, video game creation, and the list goes on ...

We are going to have a bbq at the place we meet (Hammerspace ... a community workshop) ... then we are going with a couple to watch the fireworks ... should be a nice laid back day. dh and kids are fuddy duds about fireworks but I am betting I can get at least dh to go because he knows the guy and has met his wife before and we've talked about getting together.

I think dh is going to smoke some brisket to take to the bbq and I think I will make some potato salad. :)
 
Sherri thanks for posting ... you saying about the kids picking out fireworks and patriotic crafts made me think that even though my kids are teens (and one older), there will be families at the space ... I will have to see if I can find the old film cannisters and pick up some alka seltzer ... give the kids there something to do that is for the most part is safe (heck if they wear goggles from the workshop they won't poke their eyes out...so to speak) ...

I made these alka seltzer rockets years ago ... kids decorated them and then shot them off ... think I will gather up supplies and take them to the gathering.

Yes it's very close by :) I love to visit Atlantic City but too live not so much :o

We will miss the handling of fireworks since it's illegal in NJ but here in CT it's not. We haven't told the kids yet but we will once were having fun and they won't be thinking about it so much :unsure:
