19,000 temporary files?

really? is this possible? My computer was dragging so I had a friend of the family clean it up and he says it found 19,000 temp files...doesn't this sound like a lot? What's your experience with temp files? (not internet files, windows files). That just seems like an inordinate amount.

well, I'd be inclined to not believe him...no offense to him, but like maybe he saw the number wrong...but I saw the number myself, in a program called Spybot he used....but is that really what all that was? It says that 3,000 of them still exist after cleanup. I'm a bit confused and he is so above me in computer knowledge he can't dumb himself down enough to explain, and he has a learning disability outside of being a computer genius, so he can't communicate well either what exactly is the case.

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me understand.

I don't know what they were from. I know I've been working a LOT lately (designing/scrapping) and it's possible to have had a lot of tmp files, I just don't know what a REASONABLE number is since I've never had any experience with this. I guess I'm waiting for someone to say, Yeah, I had that many once, or Heck no, that's impossible! :)

I guess it's possible..I clean mine weekly and normally have a good bit so if you haven't cleaned them in awhile I can imagine they would rack up lol

I use CCleaner and run it at least once if not twice a week. Really helps keep the puter moving lol

well when I clean mine it just says the amount in size not the actual number of files. Last time I deleted it was like 27 megabytes I think.

My cleaner averages about 14000 files each cleanup (just an avg of files deleted vs how many times i've run it) I'd say it's possible.

I've never cleaned up. But, I've only had this computer since July and I reloaded Vista in October for another unrelated problem...(well I thought I had a problem...I didn't...that's a whole other story).

I used to run ccleaner on my desktop somewhat frequently.

I clean up daily, and its not unusual for me to have 5000 or so depending on how much time I spend on the computer, if the boys are on, I could easily have 19,000 in a day.
I use Spybot too.

I just downloaded CCleaner and ran it and found 9000 files even though I had just run windows cleaner like minutes earlier. It found like 8 gigabytes of stuff I think. Now my computer is running so fast again and the pages are back to loading like they should when Im online. Im so glad that program is awesome

I'd say it's very possible, Lena...I just scanned mine and had over 9000 temporary files to delete (I haven't run ccleaner for a couple weeks).

Don't worry, Lizzy...it won't. I've run it on my computer successfully for the last 2+ years. It helps things, not hurts them. ;)

Ok so last week I deleted my temp files through Windows.
I just ran CCleaner and it found 1,597 MB of crap on my computer!!:blink:
Holy Schnikes.

let us know how it goes Lizzy!

We can have a crap cleaning party!

But, to analyze does nothing....before you ACTUALLY delete make sure it's nothing you didn't want deleted. Like your IE files if you are an IE user...I checked for it NOT to clean my firefox files. I would FLIP OUT if I got on here and my cache/temp/passwords were cleared. I don't even KNOW my password for some places HAHAH!

I don't use IE...it's on here b/c it came on here. And I even had 18.8 MB of crap from IE? Makes no sense but whatevs.
