Default EHD Newbie...

So, my EHD arrived today. Got it all set up, but now I'm not sure what to do with it. LOL...how do you ladies utilize it? Do you store all your digi-supplies on it? Or your finished LO's? Both? Neither? What's your system?

I use my EHD for backup only. Everything I actually use for scrapping is on my local hard drive.

I use it for my finished layouts, photos and digi-supplies. But after a few years, I'm starting to get to little space.

I use mine for my photos and scrap supplies. (My EHD is mirrored to a second EHD, and I back up to BackBlaze as well.)

OMG...what did I do????? I thought I moved my folder of digi-supplies over to the EHD. Deleted them off my local hard drive. Now they're gone. GONE. I'm freaking out!

Did you do a search on your pc to see if there are there somewhere? They should be somewhere...you didn't hit "delete" did you? Fingers crossed you figure it out.

I keep almost everything as a duplicate of my HD, and then some of it is only on the EHD. I had crash plan for a month but didn't like it, so I am looking for a different online storage place. Even though Drop box costs more I am thinking of going pro on there because it's so much easier to use than crash plan. Crash plan is also insanely slow for me.

Right now my current HD has 250 gigs on it. Most of which is digital scrapbook supplies. Second to that is my photos. My laptop is slowing down so it's time to start pulling stuff off of it. There are couple of categories (winter/christmas and Easter) I have on the EHD and not on my laptop (which scares me and I need to put those somewhere).

I don't think the EHD is safe enough to use as my only back up, but I prefer to use it since it's so much faster. I am planning on getting a second EHD soon as a duplicate back up and I will add additional ones eventually to store out of the house in case of fire or theft etc.

So my EHD has videos, photos, and digiscrap supplies. I do remove all my PSD layouts from my laptop if they have been printed, since those take up a ton of space on my laptop. I don't delete them though because I am always worried that I made a mistake on a layout that I need to go back and edit.

MY EHD Folders:
Photos
Videos
JPG layouts
PSD layouts
personal files
financial files
Digital Scrapbooking
- Tools with folders broken down by type
- Collections with folders broken down by them
- Styles, actions, brushes

I also have a file called " New Downloads to sort" that I dump all new releases in until they are tagged and sorted.

I hope you were able to find your files. If you did not, there are recovery programs that can get back the files you deleted from your hard drive. I ended up buying one when a sector of one my drives started going bad. Hope it all turns out okay for you!
