My Baby Boy is growing up....
For the past two nights Derek has gone to bed without a bottle!! Last night was a bit rough but today he did great!! He didn't fuss at all for nap time or bed time!! He was soooo attached to his two bottles so we really thought it would be a horrible ordeal but it couldn't have gone better!!!
Our other boys were 13 months and 9 months when they were done with bottles...Derek is older than what I would have liked but he was so attached. I guess 16 months isn't that bad! LOL I guess we are officially done with bottles!!! YAY!!!

I need to figure out how to get Kennedy off the bottle. She's only 13 months but I have a feeling it's going to be difficult.
How did you do it?

we said goodbye to bottles a couple of months ago and we couldn't have been more excited!
holly, we got the girls off of them by introducing sippy cups and when they got comfortable with them we started replacing the bottles a little at a time. after we started replacing bottles, it took about a week to completely replace bottles.

Kennedy uses her sippy cups really well and only takes a bottle at nap time and bed time. I think I'm going to try to start replacing nap bottles with the sippy cup and see if she will take those instead.
I said by 18 months she will be off the bottles if I have to just quit her cold turkey. And I'd like to have binkies gone by 2. (but that might be wishful thinking)

Up until the other day, he still got a bottle for naptime and bedtime. We just took it away cold turkey!! We did make sure he had a pretty good snack and sippy of milk about 30-45 minutes before bedtime. He did cry for a few minutes when hubby put him to bed the first night but only for a few minutes....naptime and bedtime last night couldn't have gone more perfectly. He never fussed....nothing!!!! We noticed he ate A LOT more yesterday b/c he didn't have about 16-18 ozs of milk to fill up on!!!! YAY for eating!!! My boys never took a paci so I have never had to worry about that. We tried everything to get them to take one (doctor expecially wanted two of our preterm boys to take one) but they wanted nothing to do with one after 2 months. We always said once they started walking the paci would have to go but thankfully we never had to make that decision! LOL They decided for us they didn't want them. Good luck!! I think Kennedy is doing great! Our doctor would like to see the bottle gone by 18 months so she is fine! LOL

They wanted mama but unfortunately this mama never had milk (with all four pregnancies) and I have never been able to breastfeed

I'm stuck.
Elijah nurses well and drinks a bottle well but does.not.like.the.sippy. He takes at most 2ounces all day from it. I think it's because we give him cold drinks and he gets his breast milk at either body temp or heated up. I'm not in a rush to wean him by any means but when I'm gone I'd prefer he take a sippy over a bottle. But I can't figure out how to get him to ake the sippy. My babysitter even tried heating it up. No go. Sigh...my other two adapted so much easier to the sippy. |

That's awesome that you are done with bottles, Kim!! What a great feeling!
Neither of my boys was into bottles but my older son was a HUGE paci addict. I'm not proud to say that he had his paci at nighttime until he was almost 3!!! I was just too chicken to take it away. But I am having a similar problem to you Alisa - Matthew couldn't really care less if I took the bottle away, but he doesn't take a sippy so I'm not sure how we'll transition him...especially since I'm going to stop pumping once he is 1. (Because I just cannot take it anymore...selfish of me? Perhaps but it's soooo taxing on me at work!!)

Sara,
The day he turns one that pump gets thrown into the garbage. I simply can not tolerate that pump anymore. it hurts and it makes our day revolve around it. I hate it. I will allow him to continue nursing but will no longer pump. So he will need other sources of liquid and he basically refuses the cup. UGH! |
