Default Don't Tell My Wife, But I'm In Love...

Ok, so I was putting together a layout this morning, and decided I would give the Puppet Tool in CS5 a try. I can officially tell you that this new tool alone is worth the money I paid for my upgrade. Don't believe me? Check out how I took the banner from Dani's Life of the Party kit, and straightened it out to use as a scallop border.

Yup, totally in love...

Cool!

Aaron, how do the upgrades work? You have to have the previous version installed, and the newer one installed over it (kind of)? I've been playing with the idea of investing into an upgrade, because honestly the full version is appallingly expensive. Question is, do I need the full version.

I don't think so. I had CS3, and then had to switch computers. So I put the trial of CS5 on the new computer. Then, I went in and purchased the "upgrade" from Adobe. You have to have your older version registered with them, though..I don't think there's any other way prove you have the older version.

Oh, that would be great. I don't like the idea of having TWO PS installed as my computer is kind of overstuffed anyway, but if that is the way, I'd definitely think about it. 200 EUR doesn't seem that much compared to the 700 or so I'd have to pay for the full version. And I have a full, registered version of CS4.

Now you got me thinking. :-)

That is cool!

And can you upgrade from 3 to 5 without ever having 4?

Yes. I've looked at amazon.co.uk and the upgrade is for CS2/CS3/CS4.

I always thought upgrades were some kind of "patch" - silly me! I could have had CS5 for a year now, LOL. Thanks for enlightening me! :-)

I'm on unpaid leave now, but as soon as I start receiving normal salary, I'm SO buying the upgrade.

Upgrades are way cool. Too bad you cannot upgrade student versions. I'll have to save up one time to get the full version.

That's funny Aaron. I've been accidentally hitting the puppet tool lately and was getting really annoyed with myself when just trying to transform something. Maybe I should go play. lol

why buy full and upgrade though? Just buy a new student version. There is nothing different in the upgrade that isn't in the student version. (Just that student versions aren't upgradeable..but they are cheaper than the upgrade)

I like the puppet tool too Used it a few times..my problem is I forget about it

Yep, I have used Puppet Warp a couple times and love it. It comes in handy from time to time.

Because I have left the university recently. While I am super happy to have escaped the twisted world of university science, unfortunately I can no longer use student discounts.

Photoshop is indecently pricey in Europe, isn't it? (Of course it's indecently pricey per se, US prices are more acceptable though). Good luck with the saving!

I don't know how often new versions of PS come out, but after CS6 eventually comes out the cost of CS5 will drop on sites like Ebay. Then you may be able to get a much more affordable full, legal copy. I got CS3 for $150 that way last year, and when I'm ready to upgrade I can do so through Adobe without ever having a $600 copy.

I had added your page to my faves Aaron for that very reason...to figure out how in the heck you did those scalloped borders, lol

I thought I had the student version of CS3 as my son bought it through the college he used to go to ... but looking at the plastic case it just says "CS3 extended" ... but he is going to another college right now ... guess I should look into buying a newer version before he graduates in a year!!!

However ... I just remembered about the Academic Superstore ... as long as I am homeschooling ... I could buy through here ...

http://www.academicsuperstore.com/popup/documents

How many people actually use anything other than the CS3 ... my ds uses the full suite because he is graphic arts ... but the rest of you that are scrappers and not designers ... do you use anything in addition to Photoshop/Bridge ... ???

LOL - same here. BUT - I understood the concept, and I think (given time and the right element) I could put it to good use
