Default stupid CS3 help - how do I open and use brushes?

PLEASE help!

I've been trying to move from PSP XI to CS3 since I have it and yes I'm really that stupid that I can't figure out how to do the simplest things. I have a few brushes that I want to open so I can convert them to a PNG, and I have photoshop open, and the brushes extracted. Now how do I open them in Photoshop??!

I'm not sure I understand your question. Are the brushes you have already .abr files? If so you can go to the brushes palette and click the little icon in the upper right hand corner...down on that list is an option to Load brushes...which is what you would want to do.

If you have pngs that you want to turn into brushes, just go to File Open in PSCS3. Once they are open - if there is only one per file - Choose Select All and you will get selection marks around the image. Once selected go to the Edit menu and choose Define Brush and give it a name and save it someplace you can find it. That will save it as an .abr file which you can then load as in the instructions above. HTHs If not, please give more details and I'll try to help again.

Thanks Heather - that's all I needed to know!! I couldn't figure out how to 'load' the brushes I had that were already in abr. I know it's a really simple question, but I'm just starting out with CS3 and none of the help menu stuff seemed to make sense!

I'm glad that helped! In CS3 lots of cool things are "hidden" in those palette menus - so be sure to check them all out! hehe

Yep, the palette menus opened up a whole new Photoshop world for me when I discovered them!
