Default Talk to me about eyeliner

So, I'm not big into wearing eyeliner. Main reason is because I feel like I look like a racoon while wearing it. On the rare occasion that I do wear it I use a black eyeliner - so maybe it is the color. One of my resolutions this year is to look a little less "let go" when I am out in public so I want to try and make a better effort on my make-up.

My question is - what color eyeliner do you wear and what brand do you like the best?

okay, the first question is, what color are your eyes? It matters.

Black....always black!

I wear Urban Decay Black Lava. It's kind of "shiny" and super black. Another I love love love is Smashbox cream liner. It comes in a little tub and you apply it with a brush. Trickier to do...but it's great stuff. Lola makes a good one that is really skinny so you get a thinner line and don't clump on so much.

I used to run a cosmetics store I can give you the scoop on all of em!

I have hazel eyes and wear brown/black by cover girl. If I wear black with my eyes and complexion I look like a raccoon too

I wear an "almost black." I LOVE it! I have blue eyes, though, so not sure if that makes a difference...

I use Mary Kay pencil eye liner. Mostly because it doesn't need sharpening! Maybe start with mascara. That can brighten your eyes up too.

I would try plum.
Maybeline has one that doesn't smudge. That helps with the racoon effect. But any raisin color would be great with hazel eyes. just make sure when you buy, that it doesn't have an eraser thing on the other end. That is to help smudge the eyeliner, which means it will.

:] yay my favorite topic.

you have the same colour eyes as me.. (the green.. hazel.. thing :] ) anyway.. black is really not that great on green eyes-- I mean, lest yer going emo (seeeeeee traci LOL).

my main eyeliner is a drk brown. plum looks great with green eyes too. I'm a layerer though.. LOL I also like turquoise and bright purple ^_^ .. but I don't really suggest those. A good earthy cozy brown is awesome.

Because I'm a total spaz with pencils, I use Bare Essentials black powder liner and apply it wtih a brush. I have hazely green eyes. If I wear brown shadow, I do the black liner. Occasionally I wear various shades of purple shadow to bring out the green, and then I wear a deep purple liner, again from BE and applied with a brush.

I do wear mascara - most of the time - but it just doesn't seem to be enough.

I'm glow in the dark white with blonde lashes and brows so black is out for me. I usually wear a brown, bronze or purple (that's my fave). I have blah grey/blue/green eyes. I rarely line the bottom and that helps avoid the raccoon thing and still gives them a bit of ooomph.

black or dark brown like la suggested. use very little. very close to the lash line. smudge it in for a smokey nonacoon look.

p.s. eyeliner is sexy. you'll get used to it once you figure out how you like to wear it. it supposed to thicken the lash line. nothing more. HTH. i should do a make-up tut. excuse the thinkin' out loud.

I use a "charcoal" color... but don't know if it's good or bad for my eyes, that's just always what I've used! I don't even know the brand (sad I Know)... maybe cover girl. Anyway, it's super cool, it's not liquid or a pencil... it twists up and it's super easy to apply and "erase" if it's wrong. but I am so so so far from a make-up expert.

I use Maybeline black eyeliner. The one in the red pen. I've been using it for almost 30 years now (though not the same pen). Sometimes I venture out and buy Maybelline plum or green eyeliner, for when I get 'fancy' with my makeup.

I also have hazel/green eyes and I use a brown eyeliner. I love the Organics line from Boots. You can get it at Target. It goes on so easily.....soft and smooth and doesn't bleed down my face by the end of the day.

An add-on to this - how close do you get to the corner of your eye when you apply liner (top & bottom)? My bottom lashes are pretty sparse as they go to toward the corner of my eye. I too am terrible with liner and it always looks horrendous when I do it.....

some people suggest no liner on the bottom.. I am not those people though LOL I go allll the way across but REALLY thin on the bottom (I use liquid liner for my brown) and of course I go all the way across on the top (but thicker)

i have almond shaped eyes and lashes that extend the length of them so i go all the way out on the bottom. sometimes when i wanna be really cool, i'll put it right inside my eyelid too and all the way around the inside of my eye towards my nose. i actually rarely wear it on top.

i don't do eyeliner much. i'm big on mascara though! i have long lashes, but they're a light brown at the tips so when i wear black mascara they stand out better. i ALWAYS wear mascara. i don't do much with makeup. i wear almay smart shade foundation. (love it. its really light) powder if i have it, though it makes my skin dry, and usually a brown or plummy brown eyshadow. i have dark blue eyes. i have no idea what i'm doing usually, lol.

I have blue eyes and I usually go for the black, from Avon. But I also have another one from Avon, but it's purple.

If you're not comfortable with the eyeliner, you can try an angle brush and use an eye shadow whose color is the oposite of your eyes. You can try a gold one, a lilac one... It's like eyeliner and you can still smoke the eye

I'm not big on eyeliner either, but when I do wear it, I use either brown or reddish-brown...I have reddish hair that turns more golden in the summer and more brownish in the winter...I guess depends on how much time I spend outside. I can't handle the hard pencils or liquid stuff...I use the 'crayons'. They are easier for me to control for whatever reason.

I have Hazel eyes, dark hair and fair skin... and the one I like best on me for everyday is Almay #04 Raisin Quartz. It's kindof a brownish plum color and it really brings out the green in my eyes.

One of the secrets for me to NOT look like a racoon is, on the bottom, don't put the liner all the way to the inside corner... just go from the outside corner to about 1/3 of the way in.

i'm very light on the makeup, I don't usually do my eyes or lipstick unless I'm going out somewhere very nice. When I wanna "dress up" a bit (aka makeup for the mall vs. the grocery store, LOL) I'll put just a little hint of liner in the bottom outer corner of my eye. It is just enough to give my eyes a little more presence and I don't feel all racooney.

I love the Almay collection made for your eye color. I use liquid liner in copper or something like that? I have blue-green eyes. I wear mostly browns, pinks and greens. I also wear brown mascara. I like to wear makeup too but found as I got older it causes me to break-out more. Like around my nose and chin especially.

oh I also do sometimes use eye shadow instead of eyeliner. Depends on what Im in the mood for. The secret to not looking like a raccoon I think is to avoid black eyeliner but if you do use black dont cake it on (kinda draw a small amount and then blend it in a little) and only put it about 1/3 to 1/2 way in on the bottom. If you go to the Almay site they have lots of tips on makeup. One other thing is makeup does expire. You need to make sure to replace it and that keeps it looking fresh also.

I like Clinique products a lot - especially this one (I have green eyes and like the color "dark chocolate", but there are lots of nice ones).

They have a special promo going on today only- no minimum purchase, free shipping and a free mascara/lip gloss duo. Use the code "makeup". If you sign up for the "club" during checkout (give them an email). You get to choose an extra free sample.

I totally get what you mean! I used to feel the same way about black eyeliner—it can be a little harsh, especially if you're not wearing much else on your face. If you're looking for something softer and more natural, I’d recommend trying a brown or bronze eyeliner instead. They add definition without being too intense, and they’re perfect for a more everyday look.

As for brands, I’ve had great luck with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil—it goes on super smooth and lasts all day. The shade “Whiskey” is a really pretty rich brown. If you’re looking for a drugstore option, NYX Epic Wear Liner Stick or Maybelline TattooStudio Gel Pencil are also really good!

And if you’re still unsure, try smudging the liner a bit with a brush or your finger—it gives a softer, more diffused look that’s less raccoon-y
