JOURNALING: I had seen this musical many years ago in California and hated it. I was reluctant to watch it again, but it was part of a season ticket package so....I was pleasantly surprised! I loved the production by Curtain Players. The story line still is ugly and bizarre, but the performances were sensational; there wasn't a single cast member who disappointed. Of note were - 1. Nick Van Atta playing Anthony Hope, the young sailor who befriends Todd. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from Denison University. 2. Mrs. Lovett, the role originated on Broadway by Angela Lansbury, was played by Nadia Marshall, making her Curtain Players debut. 3. Michael Ruehrmund, heavily involved in the threatre scene in the central Ohio area, plays Sweeney Todd with maniacal glee.
