I was to be named Guia Esperanza - guiding hope in Spanish.
My supposesdly second name will be taken after my maternal
grandmother's. The family was excited because I will be the
first October baby in the entire clan. Unfortunately my Mom
slipped and fell down the stairs during her 27th week of being
pregnant with me. This caused premature labor. With my
brother in tow, she took a cab to the hospital which wass quite
far from where she was living then. Mom said, she was so
scared because she could feel my feet coming out already.
Needless to say, I came out 12 weeks early, a breeched baby,
weighing only 3.3 lbs. My Mom could not bear seeing or
holding me as she was so scared something will happen to me.
I don't have any birth pictures as any other babies would.
I remained unnamed for two weeks until my family was
told that I will most probably make it. By then, everyone
was just in aew that I am alive. Mom said Gloria was
more fitting for me -Hail! that I am surviving, Glory
to the Creator that I was given a chance to live. Funny
thing though when I saw this certificate of birth from
the hospital, is that it bears my "so-wide" flat feet.
