April Challenge # 23 - Dandelions
Journaling: The last time we went for family photos I was disappointed at your lack of interest and cooperation. I coundn't even get you to comb your hair much less cut it and since it was "No-shave November" you went all scruffy looking. The photo session didn't go any better than I had expected and this was the best shot we got that day. It's not the shot I dreamed of or planned in my mind. For the first year at least I didn't do much with this photo. In fact every time I pulled it out and looked at it I felt the same sense of disappointment and would return it to the family file. A few years ago, I pulled it out and placed it on my desk where I looked at it on a daily basis. Before long I was seeing it with different eyes. I quit focusing on how you looked and started focusing on who you were at this time and came to realize that this is the pefect family photo I had hoped for all along. This photo not only captured your image, it had captured who you were at sixteen; a stubborn, hard headed boy on the brink of becoming a man who wore his hair too long, his clothes too baggy and his heart on his sleeve. I can not even begin to tell you how much I love this photo of us. What's ironic is that now you don't like it because of the bad hair and scruffy chin.
