Marimekko

I had to scrap this photo when I saw La's kit. Those flowers are perfect for my umbrella by Marimekko.

For those who aren't in the know, Marimekko is a Finnish design company (mostly doing fabrics) and the flowery pattern on my umbrella is their signature one, called Unikko (poppy).

I first discovered Marimekko (predictably) during my Finland trip in 2005. I couldn't afford to buy anything then, but a year later when in Oslo I fell ill, sent my friend to Bergen to enjoy herself and spent my days writing 70 postcards and shopping. I bought a Marimekko umbrella then (outrageously priced at 70 EUR, but WTF I was ill the whole vacation, I deserved a compensation).

I once managed to lose it and cried all my way to work when realising it, only to be relieved immensely when remembering I had actually forgotten it in the Commission's cafeteria and some good soul had found it and given it to the guys at the reception. Yay!

It got broken during the Kirill windstorm, but a gypsy guy in Bratislava managed to fixed it (commenting on the good quality of it, hehe).

These days I prefer uglier umbrellas because they're lighter, but this is the one that I still love the most.

The photo was taken in Krakow in August 2006.

Great story and wonderfully scrapped! I especially love the neutral/gray "background" (emphasized with your photo treatment) and the color/pattern pops that correspond with the umbrella. Amazing design job!

Wonderful photo and story!! But what am I seeing here? Was that some kind of statue you journalled on and was it completely blank? And what was in place of the photos you placed on top? I know, I'm curious! lol It would be interesting to see the original picture! It's very cleverly done!

This is a perfect match - I love that you told your story behind the photo and love for your umbrella! Great page!!
